Second City Mock

Haven't done one in a while, but with the draft coming soon I figured I'd post one...

In this scenario we trade down with the Vikings, picking up their 2nd and 6th round picks.

1st (f/MIN): Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International - There's a good chance he's available at this spot after a trade-down and he'd obviously fill a big need. The value on a DT is better in the 2nd as it is at WR and having two picks there really helps us out.

2nd: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech - One of my favorite receivers in this class, if we can get him in the 2nd we should take him and be damn happy to have him. He may not be as fast as Tavon Austin, but he's a better all-around player, IMO.

2nd (f/MIN): Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State - Some will say there's no way Hankins falls this far, but if you look at the board you'll realize there are a ton of DT's and many teams with other needs. This means there will be some very talented players who slip due to team needs. Hankins could well be one of them and if not him then we'd certainly be in a position to land another one here.

4th: David Quessenberry, OG/C/OT, San Jose State - We could use help across the OL so why not add a guy who is both talented and can play literally any position on the line?

5th: Brandon McGee, CB, Miami - It's a safe bet we'll add a corner at some point during the draft and while you can never feel too confident that a 5th round pick will come in and play well, there's always a chance you hit on a player.

6th: Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech - I really like this guy as a potential sleeper pick. I actually wouldn't have a problem taking him in the 4th or 5th, but I have a feeling we won't have to.

6th (f/MIN): Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State - We need a kicker, so I took a kicker here. Bleh.

I like the 1st pick but the 2 after that are meh....

Good mock. Only thing is I would take Hankins before Patton.

Yea, if somehow Hankins is on the board at 44, you don't pass on him hoping he's there later. With as many 2nd-3rd round WRs as this draft has, if Patton somehow is gone at Minnesota's 2nd round pick, there'll be another of roughly equal ability there.

Very good mock. I'd be happy with this type of haul if we trade down and grab another two picks plus the Vikes first.

Got to admit I hadn't thought about Patton until now, but as one of our second round picks if he's available he would be a very good addition. The kid's got a good skill set and could turn into a useful receiver and another weapon for Cam.
