I've got him as the fifth best behind Milliner, Rhodes, Hayden, Trufant....I'm thinking he goes at the end of the round to Atlanta or New England.....

I'll prefer a playmaker like that to Trufant. This guy changes games. lol Time to fix my mock.

I get that everyone wants a DT, but you can't just pick anyone who plays DT and be set. We have a very specific NEED of a Nose Tackle, all of the Defensive Tackles in consideration with the 14th pick are Under Tackles save Sly (but that is still a bit too high for him imo). In the second round, you're looking at guys like Hankins, and Jenkins, but again I think you're overvaluing those two players if you draft them at 44. I would be extremely happy if we could get starters at two of SS,WR and CB in the first two rounds, then follow that up with Brandon Williams in the fourth. He's a player who could step in from game one and be an anchor in the run game, which is exactly what we need. I don't really see the problem in waiting till the fourth if you're getting the player who fits best where he should be drafted. In a perfect world Star would drop or we would have lost more games and be in position to draft him, but that didn't, and isn't happening....

The problem is this thinking we only need a NT. Dwan Edwards isn't a long term answer at UT either.

Are we really expecting a guy who for 8 years was just a guy to be the end all to be all for us. He had his best year of his career last year but that isn't his norm. Add in the fact that he is coming to the end of his career. How can we expect the same production?? We need both fellas a UT and a NT no matter how you spin it.

Regarding the DTs in this draft, it's a really deep class, but only 2 or 3 might be able to start on day one without being a huge liability. If Gettleman's thinking is that he won't be able to grab a day one starter early than he might not grab one until the fourth, and take advantage of the weak skill position class and take the BPA in the 1st and 2nd.

The coaching staff is pretty high on Kearse and Chandler, and Fua progressed last year although he likely never be more than a space-eater. I imagine they will likely kick Hardy inside more often and try to get Frank Alexander on the field more often as well.

If a day one starter DT isn't available at 14 then by definition he's not going to the BPA. I trust Gettleman.

Let's be real any DT we pick could and will start over Fua, Krease , and Chandler so the only 2-3 thing is a little false.

I agree with this to an extent. I think Brandon Williams is a guy you can get in the fourth that you can have fufill the role of a space eater from day one. I will agree that in the first two rounds, the value isn't really there for the need we have at Nose Tackle.....

I disagree Jesse Williams, Hankins, Jonathan Jenkins, Short, and Williams would all start over anybody we have. Even Edwards.

Here is the portion of this show where Growl derails this thread. Where we were having a cordial back and fourth about football and the panthers. But no Growl want to talk about me.

Lol back and forths about football with you consist of you making even the most uneducated of posters look like respected NFL analytical workers

I agree that we need an UT eventually, but it's not as urgent as NT/SS/CB/ or WR in my opinion. I think a good NT would make all the difference, and I think Williams could be that guy. Next year they can look for a long term solution at UT after filling the more pressing concern this year. Just my .02....

I said in the first two rounds the value isn't there at Nose and it isn't. Sly and Jesse Williams (forgot him in the original post) would both be reaches at 14, but will almost certainly be gone at 44. Hankins and Jenkins in my opinion would be reaches at 44 (I've got both as late seconds) I'm all for filling the position, but not at the expense of missing out on a much better football player who can help you just as much....

I disagree Hankins and Short by most experts are top 50 prospects and Jenkins and Williams are rising up the board.

Not from day one. Almost anyone we pick would take some time before cracking the rotation, even if they are much more talented. You compromise your scheme otherwise.
