Larry Beavers Kick/Punt returning and Receiving highlights

Anybody that watches those highlights, and doesn't see a younger, faster Steve Smith, is not seeing the same things I am.

This guy has a HUGE upside, and great promise and potential should he be given the chance. All this talk about what level he played at in college is crazy. He is obviously leaps and bounds above them, so why knock it?

Steve Smith wasn't from some of the greater recruited colleges either. Nor was Chad Johnson.......so be careful how you judge.

If he doesn't make our roster, he certainly will on some other team in the NFL should he stay healthy.

You heard it here first. :cheers2:

While the level of competition has to be taken into consideration, there are some things that stood out to me. First of all, I love how decisive Beavers is once he gets the ball in his hands. He does not dance around, he just gets the ball and goes, immediately upfield...no hesitation. He also showed good vision. One advantage of having such a high angle on the play is it's easier to see the play develop and where the holes are, and it seemed like every time Beavers made the correct read to get the most yards out of his return. He also shows good acceleration and explosion out of his cuts, not just straight line speed, and seems to get to his top gear very quickly.

With that said, he still has a mountain to climb in order to make the team (on the active roster). He will have a significant jump in competition, and the speed of the opposing players will be MUCH better than he has ever faced. Not to mention, you rarely see those gaping holes in the NFL. He will have to learn how to burst through a tiny seam rather than the monster holes he is used to (something that took Rhyne Robinson most of his rookie year to figure out). Not to mention, he is very slight, and will have to prove that he can withstand the pounding he will receive from NFL players.

On top of all that, he'll have to beat out Robinson (who seemed to have finally put it all together in the latter stages of his rookie year, and by all accounts was having a spectacular training camp last year prior to his injury), Goodson (as KO specialist), and possibly a few others. All this with a team carrying an extra Kicker and having many other big potential bubble rookies that may force the team to find room for them if the really impress.
