He also praised Don Gregory and the scouting staff, said Hurney assembled a really good staff here and said he wasn't kidding when he said he had hit the lottery getting this job. Use the example of our late round picks as evidence of how good our scouting staff is.

Said we used 28 of the 30 slots for visits, saved 2 for any last minute visits as a result of late breaking medical or other information. He said the visits were distributed among the prospects they are looking at in each round.

hurney did rebuild the scouting department after the 2011 draft. i remember him saying in a radio interview that pretty much everyone except gregory had been replaced. i think the group did a good job last year. should be even better this year.

He was asked about his inclination to trade up/down, sounded like he planned to stay put.

He said he's not going to talk himself out of drafting a good player for the sake of trading down to get more picks, said he'd rather have a dollar than 3 dimes which I thought was a great analogy.

He also re-emphasized his philosophy that the big guys allow you to win, used the example of the NYG acquiring Baas at center when O'Hare went down, said Baas's strength against the NT on the slew of 3-4 teams there were scheduled to face was huge during their SB run.

I think they're going WR, not sure which one though. I could see Austin, Patterson, Hopkins and if they traded down possibly Hunter/Allen. His comment about the DL and OL being really deep leads me to believe he wants to hit on a position that isn't so deep early and get one of the second tier DTS....
