Jordan says Charlotte Hornets "sounds good"

Its more than the name. Its the team identity.

Downplay or belittle it as much as you like, but team identity does play a role in winning and losing mentally for the players.

The Bobcats have been a total and complete failure, top to bottom. You don't think the players realize that?

Wiping the slate clean and replacing with an identity this community took pride in may indeed contribute to a turn around.

Ditto.

The bobcats buisness model should be taught to prospective buisness students on what not to do

There's literally nothing standing in the war of a REBRAND except MJ, and it certainly appears which side of the fence he is on.

GO HORNETS!

It was the thread started by Zod saying that his inside sources basically confirmed that it was not going to happen.

I chalk that statement up there with Zod's other famous one.....that Terell McClain would be an all-Pro DT.

Derp.

I was told by someone fairly high up in the Bobcats he did not feel the name change would happen. I just pass along the info.

But keep nipping at my heels, it tickles.

That's all well and good, but if you went back and deleted the thread because it contained an inaccurate prediction, that's just egotistical. There were lots of posts in that thread that would have been useful to read back over again. Whether it's true or not, when you make a claim it's never a good idea to go back and erase history to avoid being proven wrong. I was curious to remember even what I said regarding the issue, because I don't remember.

Anyways, water under the bridge. But if you are afraid to be wrong, or don't have confidence in the source, it's probably better to not share it definitively. It unsettles the natives less.

Zod's thread is still there.

I ended up going to six games this year and each one required me diving 4 hours from Lynchburg to Charlotte, so to say that I invested time is an understatement (we batted .500 in those six games going 3-3). On top of that I have invested about $500 in merchandise this year alone just to support the team. I also know a lot of other guys on this forum who have invested time and money to the Cats.

KT on the other hand would rather talk about the race and the name rather than invest in the team.

The point is, if you're going to sit here and talk crap about how the Bobcats name means something to you when you're not even investing you're time and money in the team... well you can take a hike.

Zod's thread is still there.

Which would have been helpful for anyone to post in my previous two attempts asking where the thread went. I apologize Zod for my remarks on the issue but will leave them for posterity of my jackassedry.

KT, I don't know why you think we'd want the name back for racist intentions. I grew up watching the Hornets and went to a couple games as a child, they are nostalgic to me. I'm also the type of person that doesn't believe that team names/mascots should leave. The Hornets have a historical origin to the name and it is and should be unique to Charlotte. The Hornets were never an amazing success but they were leaps and bounds better than the Bobcats.

It's like comparing the original Power Rangers to the 25th season of whatever they have now.

Meh, not really. The Clippers are probably the worst sports franchise in the US historically, yet add CP3 and Blake and they are the best team in LA and one of the hottest tickets in the NBA

I'm sure there will be a lot of buzz (pun intended) when the name change happens, but I somehow doubt it will last very long unless the team improves. This upcoming draft is a lot more important

The same could be said for the Panthers, they are several winning seasons below .500. Theyve had players whove been murdered, and have murdered. The steroid scandal, half empty stadiums, lifeless tailgates. The owner wont even guarantee the team stays in NC unless you give him more money. LMAO. The mere fact the state dont want to raise taxes for its pro football team shows everyone just how much the Panthers mean to the state as a whole. When JR passes and the new owner relocates the Panthers, Bobcats are all you're gonna have left Zod. LOL

As for bringing together the community, bologna. Itll hype some casual NBA fans up for half a season, but itll do nothing to enhance the franchise, hence NO shedding itself of the moniker and colors.

All this is moot because we will remain the Bobcats in 2014 and celebrate 10 years in the Queen City as well as continue to highlight local blacks and minorities contributions to our community. George Shinn wouldve never sold his team to MJ. Thank you Bob.

I would support the Hornets more than I have supported the Bobcats if nothing else for the pure fact that you have helped me realize how much disdain that I have for Bob Johnson and the Bobcats franchise as a whole. It should be noted that I still love the players and the actually team, but everything above that has been piss poor from the start. You running your mouth about the racists in Charlotte being the reason the Bobcats failed has help push a lot of people on here away from the Bobcats. So well done, instead of helping your "beloved" Bobcats reach out and bring in more fans, you assisted in pushing some away.

Clippers were around a lot longer and have more lifelong fans. I'm sure being an LA team helps too. I don't question your logic though. We need to get lucky and draft a Blake type player and then others will come.
