Chucky loves Tavon Austin

Football is a game of mismatches. There isn't another player in this draft who is a bigger mismatch. The kid has the ability to score anytime he touches the ball. How could you not like that?

i agree. I think he won't exactly put up consistent 100 yard games, but the mismatches he can create can open up both the run and pass game.

He may not, but he has the ability to get 100+ yards, only touching the ball a few times a game. I believe he will be a game changer. You get a LB or S on him and good luck.

As impressive as his highlight reel is... he didn't exactly play against stiff competition at WVU.

Every defender is much much faster at the pro level and his size concerns me. Harvin plays essentially the same role and is a decent bit more stout and even he can't play a full season.

edit: as far as Gruden is concerned every player drafted is a great addition.

That's because of migraines not injuries. Tavon may not have faced the toughest competition, but that doest change his speed or cutting ability. Tavon is a tough lil SOB (don't think he missed a game due to injury). Injuries are a concern no matter a players size. And his homerun threat should out weigh those concerns.

for those concerned about his size and his ability to hold up throughout a season; smith is 5'9 185, austin is 5'8 175. correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard at a certain point every inch is supposed to add ~10lbs so he's essentially the same build as smith. he'll only get harder from nfl training and i don't think he has a concerning history of injuries.

edit: harvin is 5'11 185 so i definitely wouldn't call him more stout than austin.

My only concern with Tavon is fit. Cam has not shown very much touch thus far on short routes and crossing patterns. Those will be where Austin excels and Im just not convinced our team as constituted would maximize his ability. Where someone like Hopkins or Hunter or even Eifert may not be as gifted as Austin I think our offense would be able to use them properly.

The thing is people act like he's absolutely terrible at short routes and crossing patterns. That is not the case. He's just not as good as other things. Does he need to get better at those, yes, but he's not so awful to rule out drafting Tavon.

Id agree but KoolKat will post blast this thread with the same arguments from the 3000 other posts in Austin threads.

KoolKat makes me tired of saying or reading Tavon's name...or Lafell's for that matter lol.

I couldn't agree more. Not so much Lafell, but he and I went on for pages about WR vs DT. The stubbornness was exhausting.

Gruden IS the man. His QB camp show is just hilarious, because he is dead serious with what he is saying but he puts in a way that makes his criticism almost humorous.

I wish we had him as a coach. And yes, we should draft Tavon.

Smith and Tavon on the field at the same time would be scary. And you'd like to think some Smitty would rub off on him as well.
