Gross really seems to like the kid -

I hope thats a good sign - Im hoping that with Kalil back, Silatolu in his 2nd year and Gross in decent 10 th season form that the left side of the line will be pretty solid. Hopefully we wont have to be rotating guys in and out of positions on a weekly basis anyway.

Amini played as well as you would hope a 2nd round G would play. Started slowly, and gained momentum the last half of the year. This was his first real off-season. If he put in the work he needed to, he very well could be ready to go this year. I am of the opinion he will be really good. When he flashes it is a sight. When those flashes become regular events. I can see a beast beside Kalil. That could be this year. Worst case, he will still be better than last year.

worth it? yeah, why not. he was a rookie OL and with very rare exception (as in maybe 2-3 each year) they all look like they have skates on for the first year or two (which is why i want us to take a break from starting rookies on the OL for a year).

in addition to just struggling because he's a rookie starting on the OL, he lost his anchor on the right side in kalil and had to settle for hangartner which was a pretty big step down.

he'll get better. I'm not worried. he's still the same solid prospect i was watching pre-draft last year.

as far as pro-bowler, i hope not, but then i don't want any panthers in the probowl. causes too many contractual problems...esp. for just being a popularity contest rather than being indicative of actual talent, but that's another discussion.

having an elite OG is overrated. I'll settle for just not sucking, not getting pushed around very often, not getting penalized too much, buy cam some time, and open up a few holes. silatolu will easily meet those expectations in the next year or two.

Losing Kalil hurt his development immensely, not just because Kalil is a Pro Bowl center, but because he was the one who made all the line calls. Hangartner and Byers were not able to fill that role, which meant that it wasn't until Amini started to figure out the fronts for himself that he could even attempt to play the position. He improved a lot through the year but what is rather surprising is how much he covered for his still terrible pass blocking techniques by simply outfighting his man. When he matches his technique to his brute strength he'll be an anchor in no time.

I agree with most posters, hard to judge a rookie for failing his rookie season when his center goes down and the right side of the line is terrible. He is great in space and if he improves his second year he will be at least alright (and like rayzor say, even if he is just ok we can have him start for cheap for 10 years, I take that deal).

My concern is actually his ability in space. Obviously the scouting department was instructed to find that kind of player to fit Chuds gimic style. And as they did I fear that they might have compromised with his "normal play" ability (which will be most of it from now on, and not alomost nothing as Chud dreamed).
