Icege's Final Mock Draft

Icege

1. Chance Warmack, RG, Alabama

2. Jonathan Cyprien, SS, Florida International

4. Akeem Spence, DT, Illinois

5. Sanders Commings, DB, Georgia

6. Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State

The current regime has made it clear that their draft philosophy is BPA, BPA, BPA. Hurney drafted for need, sometimes taking two at the same position in case he missed the first time (see: McClain/Fua, LaFell/Gettis, Clausen/Pike, etc). Gettleman has addressed needs through free agency (which fortunately for the Panthers, is a buyer's market this season). With that said, if Chance Warmack is still available, I would be very surprised to see the team pass up on him. They took a LB at #9 last year with our LB starters being Beason, Anderson, and Davis. I don't think that there is any reason NOT to draft a top-5 player that happens to be available at #14 because some feel that the position does not impact the team. Ever since Duke Robinson didn't pan out, the RG position has been a sieve (with the exception of Schwarz's time at the position). Warmack would be a huge addition to the line.

I'm well aware that Cyprien will likely sneak into the back end of the 1st round, but this is my mock draft so he'll be there when the Panthers pick in the 2nd. I'm sure that the resident Miss Cleo's will still have to express how their crystal ball told them that he for sure won't be there in the 2nd. ;)

Akeem Spence is one of the DTs that the team has brought in to speak with. The position requires depth and Spence also has another attribute that will raise his value in the staffs eyes: flexibility. Not physical, but in the ability to drop back into coverage as well as line up anywhere on the line.

Commings could play at safety, but is also the large bodied CB that Rivera seems to prefer (ie: Cromartie, Cason, Jammer). He picked up Josh Norman last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Commings come on board as well. He's already visited with the team, which is a good sign for him that there is interest.

Marquess Wilson I still think would be a huge addition to the WRs. He's at his best during jump balls and with Cam's tendency to send them high, it would be a natural fit. He was originally a 2nd round WR until issues with Mike Leach arose. With the recent signings of Hixon and Ginn I find it difficult to believe we draft a WR early (unless Hopkins is available in the 2nd while Cyprien and/or Swearinger are not), but taking a gamble on one in the 6th wouldn't hurt.

If that happened, it would make me forget about that other GM we had. Anyway, a WR sooner would be good and i doubt we even draft a CB if not in the first since we have a bunch of middle tier guys fighting it out already. I think people on here generally love taking Warmak in the first or hate it, I'm not a fan of OL in the first unless its a top LT but I can see the value there.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
