All the Charlotte people that got rapped by inflated property tax in last 3 years

Better get some lube cause it about to go up again.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The city said the capital budget would fund several projects including six new police stations, redevelopment in the Bojangles area and road construction.

"We need to get the capital budget done one way or another," said Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx on Wednesday.

The city manager's office laid out four different plans Wednesday night that would all raise property taxes anywhere from 2.78 cents to 3.99 cents.

On a house worth $200,000, the biggest increase would cost $79.50 a year. The smallest increase would cost $55.60 a year.

"There are some on council, me included that would say no tax increase," said Councilman Andy Dulin.

Dulin says that he agrees the community needs some of the projects but he is not convinced a tax hike is necessary. He says voters should choose whether they want to pay more.

Other council members say they don't like raising taxes either but they say if the projects are delayed they could cost more down the road.

"These projects were all good projects. We all essentially agreed on them. I think it's important to move them forward, ASAP," said Councilwoman Beth Pickering.

The city manager left out of the plan the streetcar project saying they need more time to study how to pay for it.

"What's important is trying to figure out a pathway for that project. I it happens outside the capital budget great, I just think it needs to happen," said Foxx.

Most council members supported the two least-expensive options for taxpayers that would push the projects off a year. Taxes in all four plans would increase July 1.

The council still has to vote before any of these increases go into place.

I can put my mind around my property taxes going up 100 bucks or so a year. Not the more than double it did last year.

Some people been fighting for it to get reduced but it will increase instead. Gonna be many mad people around Charlotte. People might not care about losing $100 a year but a principle behind it will make some very mad.

Ya'll are cracking me up.

Here in California I pay $4000,00 in Property Taxes. That's Four Thousand Dollars.

Incredibly in the last election the people of Ventura, Ca voted to tax themselves an extra $60 per parcel to help Local Schools as they cant afford to buy pencils. (Read fund the Pensions for teachers who work 20 years and retire to live 40 more collecting checks).

When it was bought, the market price was almost 3x the tax assessed price (not that unusual I guess). Dirt cheap in comparison, but then the reassessment went through and it did a little more than double. I also went ahead and upped my home owners insurance the month before so I literally poo a brick. Got it refied...but still, it sucked for about 4 months. I did my taxes months ago, but I think my annual property taxes is around 4-5k? So it didn't go up EXACTLY 4000....but damn near enough. I knew there was a 4 in there somewhere!

They said they goofed on the assessments and that a lot of homes may have been overvalued and the money will be given back. In like 5 years. Yeah, right.
