Defiance video game

Anyone else have this game? Just bought it so I can't give an opinion yet (although I will say I don't like having to install the game to play it). I've read bits and pieces about this game and for the most part, gamers seem to like it despite some technical flaws.

For those that don't know it's supposed to be kind of like an MMORPG third person shooter. I'm not generally into third person shooter's but I believe the game is made by the same folks who made Rift, which I liked.

Its not bad. Ive been playing for a little over a week and so far its ok.

There is a main story through line with a lot of side content and the side content seems to largely consist of running from one world even to the next one. Im not sure yet that Ive seen a ton of benefit in leveling or the up/side-grades that there are for the weapons.

Not going to say its a flop (yet) but I'm not sure how much longevity it has either.

I was thinking of getting it, but I've got a ton of concerns about the end game content and the technical flaws from what I've been reading. Is it worth it, is there enough promise in the game and the developers that there will be end game content and that patches are being released?

As far as patches, I can tell you that they are definitely releasing patches. I just bought the game and as soon as installed it to the hard drive I had to download 3 or 4 patches. Haven't had the chance to play it yet because I had something else I had to do.

I've played for about 2-3 hours now. My initial impression is that it's boring. It's also pretty confusing with all of the menu's. Graphics are average at best, which can be forgiven since the world is really big. Missions are pretty much fetch quests so far. I don't know if it gets better, but I can't see myself playing this all that long.

Played a couple more hours and it has gotten better. It takes a while to get used to though. Being the first MMORPG on a console I guess they did the best they could do but my god it's so confusing with all the menu's. Not to mention it's kind of hard to determine what guns can be modded and with what mods. I have an assault rifle and a few mods and I can't use them for some reason and the game doesn't tell me why. The leveling system is a bit underwhelming IMO. The "upgrades" are so miniscule that you don't really notice any effect. Maybe it'll get better when I get better weapons, I don't know.

One thing I do like about this game is the way the game cycles night and day. Makes it a bit more realistic. Well about as realistic as a game about aliens and mutants can be I guess.

Is this the game that ties in with the TV show? How does that work? Is it like simulcast? Do the events of the show affect the game or vice versa? I think it's a cool multimedia idea, but was curious how it works in reality?

It is a tie in, but they are separate as far as storyline goes I believe. I don't even think the first episode has aired yet. Although they do have some missions called "Episode Mission" so maybe those follow the TV show...not really sure.

It's just got a steep learning curve and takes a bit to get used to the menu's. It's something different, at least for consoles which was what intrigued me. I've played about 7-8 hours now, so it did hook me in a bit.

But yeah, if you're looking for the best third person shooter, or the best MMORPG, then it's not here. But I don't think I'm regretting my purchase if for nothing else than to support the developers. Maybe other developers will try to make different types of games for the console if this game is somewhat successful.

I gotta admit, the more I've played the more I've enjoyed it. Really interested in seeing where they take this and hopefully we can get some more MMORPG's on the console.

Its not very MMORPG to be honest. Since there is no tank/healer/DPS roles any cooperation or collaboration becomes little more than people shooting the same target while saying nothing. There is no strategy to any encounter beyond shoot/reload/shoot more.

Ill get my 60 bucks worth of enjoyment out of it but I cant see me playing it for more than a a couple of months.

Technically they do have the pieces in place for DPS/healer/tank...just not a real need for them. They need to start gearing content towards that stuff if they want to keep PC players interested. Console players probably don't care one way or the other about that since this is the only game of it's kind on console.

MMORPG probably isn't the best description though...MMO would be better.
