I think this is how we all feel right now

Think about it,

Ward cam up for his contract and at the time it was worth it, Skinner came up and was worth the extension. Same with Jordan and Eric Staal's contracts as well. Semin has earned it as well. Those are all top line type of guys that get paid and deserve to get paid, they all have good contracts as well.

If Skinner and Staal weren't playing so damn bad then the team wouldn't be 1-13 or something over the last month, they'd most likely be floating at .500 during that time period.

A bunch of teams are in cap trouble next year as well, so it's not like Carolina is the only team in that boat. Injuries are really what derailed this season and made it worse then what it should have been.

The cap dropping nearly 10 million is hurting a bunch of teams.

As for what Skinner brings, when he's healthy he brings decent defense and way above offense in a 20 year old player with tons of potential. In the NHL that's worth quite a few draft picks.

Some of that money should've been towards the defensive side. You would think that he would realize if he keeps giving out big contracts to forwards, the defensive side would suffer. I'm glad Semin got extended but I think 7 mill is too much. We should've waited and/or offered 5 mill. We also didn't have to trade Suter for Jordan as he was a FA at the end of the season. We valued getting 2 brothers together too much. And I said that at the time.

Semin was offered a one year deal at 7 million dollars after 2 down years and the league considering him a malcontent. If he had a big year, he would've gotten more then that out in FA. That's a good deal and it's for what Semin is worth. The Jordan thing was to try and push the team into winning this season and it was no telling if Jordan was going to come to Carolina or not for sure or what he would've been worth on the open market.

If it gets the team a top 2-4 defensive guy or a few 1st round picks, then yea. The farm system for the Hurricanes is a bare cupboard.

Eric is at 8.25 a year. I doubt Semin would've gotten more than 7 mill if he hit the open market. He is almost at Eric money and he isn't there yet as far as the producton we get from Eric. We also haven't established consistency. I think we should've offered 5 and somewhere between 5 and 6 at the most. Brandon is about equal to Jordan. It was less about pushing us into a winning season and more about bringing together 2 brothers. Because if it was, we wouldn't have given up Brandon.

I also don't like 1 dimensional players tbh. I loved Skinner in his rookie year because he was excellent at the only thing he can do. Now he isn't that good at it and he doesn't do anything else.
