Panthers expected to select DT within first 3 rounds per Tony Pauline

It'd be a meltdown because a lot of the "experts" have convinced everyone that the Panthers are leaning heavily and early at taking a DT... There isn't one listed in my previous post at all...

So in your mind we have a great DT situation?

Doesn't take a expert to look at our roster and say "dam they need DT's and have needed them for years".

Are you that dense? It was more of a "the Panthers will do the opposite of what everyone is saying LOL" sarcasm post and not an in-depth opinion piece...

No wonder I gave up posting for the most part in the Panthers forums...

LOL, sounds like Tony is really on top of our draft situation.

The thing I find funny is that many fans here who have no actual contacts and mostly speak based on 4th, 5th and 6th hand information, mock someone who does have real contacts and actually talks to people within the league and team insiders. Nobody knows what will happen, but to dismiss what someone that may have actual information says because it's not what you want is just silly to me. Personally, I simply take it all in, whether I like it or not, and add it to my knowledge base.

By the way, I'm not talking specifically to you Catman, I'm just using your post as a platform to make a point.

There is no sarcastic word in your post. You have been on the Wr in the 1st bandwagon all offseason. Don't switch up now.

I think the fact that we haven't signed another DT besides Dwan, and that we did bring in some defensive back depth (no quality starters) that we will go DT at 14. It would have to take someone to fall for us not to take DT. Although I do like the idea of Nuke Hopkins if possible, but 14 will be too high for him. Xavier Rhodes seems like it could be a bit high, but i'd take it. I just hope he can cut it as a pro.

We wont be taking Allen in the first. We felt Newton was such a high reward guy 2 years we had to take him. Last year Kueckly was rated by many the best defensive player in the draft. Honestly Allen isn't even the best receiver on many guys boards. And he won't be the BPA at 14 given all the injury issues. If we had 2 first round picks and perhaps 10 picks overall you can take a flier on a guy who might turn into a great player. But when you have no 3rd and only 5 picks total, you go for guys who are safe and likely not to bust or need extensive development.

You just can't say that about Allen. He is still months from being 100% and even longer from being ready to play in the NFL. A team like the 49ers might have the picks to use one on him. We just don't. Too risky at this point. Sad but true. He has had ankle and knee injuries this year. As much talent as he might have, he is just not a good fit for us given our limited picks and need for immediately impactful players. This will be Gettleman's first draft and his initial first round pick. He will be looking to hit a homerun. Who picks an injured player with so many healthy options on the table at 14??? Lets be real here........................

Datone Jones is an interesting option at DT. He's a bit of a tweener but so was Quentin Coples last year. If you recall we were probably going to draft Coples and play him at DT if Luke hadn't fallen to us.

Actually we were going to take Mark Barron if he fell to us. We were going to take Kuechly if Barron was gone. Coples was an option as were other players as well such as Cox for example. I don't remember anyone on the team saying he was definitely the third option.

Maybe I'm mistaken. The point is Rivera said if they would have drafted Coples, they would have played him at DT. Datone Jones is a similar 3-4 DE type.

I think QB early (G. Smith or Barkley) is a smoke screen but I sure hope someone is that stupid. There are only 4-5 sure-fire difference makers in this draft IMO.

If Star or one of top OT's doesnt fall to us, we need to trade down with someone in lust with Austin and get 3 of top 50 picks- CB, DT, S or OL.
