One could argue Hopkins is better than Allen.

When there isnt much separating this many WRs I think it is foolish to take one so high when you can get comparable talent later.

Pro day 40 times are notorious for being inaccurate often being much faster than combine times. With that being said, it will be important for Allen to show he has the speed to go with his size. Given the ankle and knee injuries, it is important that he show he still has his speed. On the other hand if he can run a 4.4, it will be faster than he ran in college. He is not known for his speed. I hate to say it but he reminds me of another Pac 12 receiver we drafted a few years ago. If he runs between 4.6 and 4.7 I wouldn't touch him before the 2nd round at the earliest.

Yeah, he does remind me of that "guy". Strong college player. Looks on the slugish side. I've said before he looks like a high 4.5-4.6 guy. He's the one WR that scares me. And I've gotten the DJ vibe off him for a while.

I think this guy has a huge chance of being our pick. One thing that worries me is that the Jets are at his pro day and if they manage to grab Tampa's 13th pick in a Revis trade they could easily scoop him up right before us.

Most complete WR in this years draft, I would be completely fine with this pick at #14.

I think Hopkins is the most complete....his ceiling just isn't the highest

This is a big one for us. Big enough that I indeed felt compelled enough to start another thread.

The many connections between the Panthers and Allen are there.

In addition to the fact that Allen is having his Pro Day at Proehlific Park, there's a plethora of other things that tie us to him.

-Rivera is a Cal guy

-Reliable Rickly has posted numerous things to his twitter in recent months that tie him to us, such as pictures of the two together, praises for him, etc.

-He fits into what we need, and into Gettleman's stated methodology

-He plays as a position we've spent a ton of time looking at

-Hes a local kid

-He's a soft spoken, intelligent, talented player-all things Richardson has shown an affinity for.

I could go on if I really tried but I think that suitable to demonstrate that we're certainly going to have a special interest over the other 31 teams come tommorow.

I've adopted him as "my guy" and am real curious to see how this pans out tommorow. Frankly, I he dominates, he could rocket out of our range altogether. As he is still recovering from his injury, I don't know that that happens though. Hope it doesn't. Of course if he lays a duck, it really throws a wrench into the works if we indeed as tied to him as the evidence suggests.

Being that he is my guy, I'm getting irritated of seeing other playoff teams act as if he is going to be there when they pick, while they continue to mock a player weve shown zero interest in to us. So frankly, I'm hoping he does just well enough to solidify himself as a number 14 overall pick kind of guy, but that's off topic.

Anyways. This is seemingly the most significant pro day for this team this offseason, so I thought it worth opening up some discussion about.

Mike Mayock will be there and be talking about his pro day specifically tommorow night on the NFLN for those who have it.

OP updated with some of James Dator's tweets from his pro day. Sounds like he did very well in the football aspect, didn't over impress in the 40 (don't care) and I'm seeing numerous people start to excuse him for it because he wasn't 100%.

Rams are a threat. They have ammo to move up.

I initially heard somewhere a while back that Zach Maynard was supposed to be throwing for Allen today.

Instead, Allen decides to have Ricky Proehl, yes, our Ricky Proehl throw for him instead.

What does this say about you as a QB when your brother feels his future is better staked with a middle aged ex receiver throwing the ball over you?

Maynard has to be the worst starting QB in college football. The guy was awful.
