Patterson - FYI

If NFL teams are the ones saying that the interviews didn't go well, they can't just be thrown out because 'his football IQ is high.' They're not asking the kid to memorize the periodic table here, they're asking questions that they think matter.

Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson (88): Even a casual football fan can see that Patterson has elite physical tools and the ability to make big plays with the ball in his hands, which has him in the first-round mix at this point. However, the more NFL personnel I talk to the more I hear worries about the steep learning curve he will face at the next level. He played just one year at the FBS level and has a lot to learn in terms of route-running, got mixed reviews on his interviews at the combine and there are concerns about his ability to quickly absorb an NFL playbook.

Patterson (6-1⅞, 216) is more of a playmaker in space than college teammate Justin Hunter, but Hunter is more savvy and loose as a route-runner, and is much more natural tracking the ball and going up to win one-on-one matchups downfield. Both Hunter and Patterson have had some drops (and there are concerns about Hunter's toughness), but Hunter has more overall traits that translate to the next level and more potential there. Patterson is likely to come off the board first, but I agree with those who feel Hunter is better equipped to succeed at the next level.

Sounds similar to one Mr. Cameron Jerelle Newton.

And no fail. Let's compare A QB who had the greatest season ever by a college QB. To a WR who didn't.

Why don't you compare him to Ted Ginn, Troy Williams, and Darius Heyward Bay. All WR drafted highly on nothing but their athletic ability. Just like Patterson will be this season.

There are levels...

If he's just not quite Mensa material. that's not all that big a big concern.

If you think he might have trouble learning a playbook, that's something to think about.

If you think he's dumb enough to shoot himself in the leg or some other idiot stunt, you start shying away.

Jesus Christ all I said was it sounds similar to what some analyst were saying about Cam. Only one year starting D1, may not be able to grasp nfl play book, the "Gruden" interview where Cam couldn't name a single play he use at Auburn, potential to be great but a lot of doubters.

I didn't say he would come in and be Cam. It just sounds similar.

why do you always bring up this argument? its not valid. a WR cant impact the game/team like a QB can so why even mention it.

Why can't you compare him to players who played his position, had similar numbers, similar college exp. and were drafted high in the 1st round. Like people thought he would be earlier in the draft season.

I know why you don't. Some of you have him so overated in your opinion that you will use the best case scenario when comparing him to other players. No matter if they played the same position or not. Instead of using the more likely comparisons. Who play his position and didn't have the careers you want from a top 15 pick WR.

it doesnt matter how i feel about him. the fact of the matter is people critize Cam for his rawness despite him leading auburn to a national championship and having one of the greatest QB college season. shows what the scouts think about stats. for the record i really only want patterson if we trade down. dont ever compare me to other people my friend.

So again you want to compare 1 aspects of 2 different players that is similar. Which you are only doing because its the only positive comparison that helps your opinion of him.

But in reality if you compared him to players with more similarities with him. It would hurt your argument. So just admit this is why you use Cam as a example.
