Realistically who will be there at pick 44?

The second round should be solid at CB, WR, and maybe DT. I am hoping the following drop:

DT: Kawann Short, Jonathan Hankins

CB: Jonathan Banks

SS: Matt Elam

WR: Justin Hunter, DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods

G: Larry Warford

I don't know much about Woods but Hunter or Hopkins in the 2nd would be great. I'm kind of partial to Hunter(very slightly over Hopkins) because he's 6'4 and fast. A big receiver that can stretch the field and go get jump balls would help Cam out tremendously.

look at anyone slated to go from halfway through round one on and you're bound to see several.

there is a whole lot of talent that is going to be slipping through. crap, if we had a third round pick we'd probably be able to pick up someone thought to go early in the second round. there's very few players with what would be considered "elite" talent this year, but as far as just really good players that are legit starters there's a lot.

I'm not even close to be worried about who is going to be available....WR, DT, S, CB, RG....any of those should be able to be addressed with a solid starter. i think we may even be able to find a solid starter in the 4th....maybe not right out of the gate, but in a year or two for sure.

i like this draft class a lot. it would be a shame to not be able to pick up a 3rd. worse yet giving up one of the 5 to move up.

i would add jesse williams to that list and insert a couple stud TEs.

shoot...there's several other guys that could be added.

Yes---I thought of about 3 or 4 players after posting. I would love to see Jesse Williams.

I'd like a CB/S in the 2nd. But I'm thinking we go DT/WR in the first 2 rounds

I've mentioned in a thread that I made today that you can look at our drafts and see we only select players we work out in the first 3 rounds unless its something crazy like when we taught Clausen was a steal in the 2nd... sigh...

However, that Dave Gettlemen is the dumbass type to use smokescreens and not work out your top prospects before the draft so we can then use this list of players we have worked out:

Quarterback Prospects

  • Ryan Nassib, Syracuse – 3rd Round Grade

Wide Receiver Prospects

  • DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson - 1st Round Grade
  • Tavon Austin, West Virginia - 1st Round Grade
  • Coraderrelle Patterson, Tennessee – 1st Round Grade
  • Justin Hunter, Tennessee – 1st Round Grade
  • Keenan Allen, Cal – 2nd Round Grade
  • Stedman Bailey, West Virginia - 2nd Round Grade
  • Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech – 3rd Round Grade
  • Conner Vernon, Duke - 5th Round Grade
  • Aaron Mellette, Elon – 6th Round Grade
  • Tyrone Goard – Eastern Kentucky – 7th Round Grade or UDFA

Offensive Guard Prospects

  • Edmond Kugbila, Valdosta State – 7th Round Grade or UDFA

Offensive Tackle Prospects

  • Lane Johnson, Oklahoma – 1st Round Grade
  • D.J. Fluker - Alabama - 2nd Round Grade

Tight End Prospects

  • Gavin Escobar, San Diego State – 2nd Round Grade
  • Kevin Finney, Richmond - 7th Round Grade or UDFA

Defensive Tackle Prospects

  • Sharrif Floyd, Florida - 1st Round Grade
  • Kawann Short, Purdue – 2nd Round Grade

Defensive End Prospects

  • David Bass, Missouri Western State - 5th Round Grade

Linebacker Prospects

Cornerback Prospects

  • Sanders Commings, Georgia - 3rd Round Grade
  • Robert Alford, SE Louisiana - 4th Round Grade
  • Kayvon Webster, USF - 6th Round Grade

Safety Prospects

  • Jonathan Cyprien, FIU - 1st Round Grade
  • Matt Elam, Florida – 2nd Round Grade
  • Duke Williams, Utah State - 4th Round Grade

So to answer OP's question, it looks like we will be targeting (in order of what I think is most likely) in the first: Sharrif Floyd DT, J. Cyprien S, Tavon Austin WR, Lane Johnson OT, Justin Hunter WR, DeAndre Hopkins WR, & Coradarrelle Patterson WR.

So in that list, we know Cyprien probably will make it to us and Floyd 100% isn't, so we probably take Cyprien first. I extremely doubt we look at that many WR's and don't take one in the 2nd if we go D in the first, so OP to answer your question: Kennan Allen WR, Stedman Bailey WR, and finally D.J. Fluker OT if our WR's are all off the board.

Should we go Offense in round 1 however, look for the board to flip to the defensive side of the ball and line up with: Matt Elam S and Kawann Short DT.

What do we know for sure? We know for sure we will be picking up a WR in one of the first two rounds of the draft, you can take that to the bank.

Not according to Jon Beason. After he was drafted, he said he was a bit surprised we picked him because he hadn't really heard anything from us during the pre-draft process, other than a generic quick meeting at the combine.

I don't think Gettleman is going to be playing that coy poo.
