Pretty good read from Clayton. Don't understand the part about the other division opponents maybe forcing us to change our style, but still a good read from someone (finally) not really bashing Jake.

he's saying if other teams can score a lot of points then it will force us to abandon the run and make jake throw more

My fault for not being clear. I guess I understand where he is coming from but I don't understand the logic behind it. The Cards high flying (pardon the pun) offense sure didn't make Pittsburgh change in the SB. I don't see our division opponents getting such an early aerial-attack based lead on us that we abandon the run. I still don't know why we did so quickly against Arizona. I mean, we scored over a good length of the field early, and for some reason that is beyond my realm of comprehension, totally abandoned it after that and had Jake throwing like crazy. We abandoned the run in the second quarter of that game.

That part kind of stopped me as well. I understand it in theory: if one team is passing more and putting points up quickly, then the Panthers will have to follow suit.

But if we're running the ball well and controlling the clock, aren't we keeping these "high-powered" offenses off the field?

I don't think anything is going to sway Carolina from the run, save a team just completely shutting us down in that area. Fox has wanted a power running game since the days of Stephen Davis, and he finally has one.

"We do play a schedule that will be tough, but I'm not making the mistake I made in 2004," Delhomme said

i am glad someone on the team said..it nobody seems to think that we have a tough schedule next year....i still think we can win but it will be harder

No one has said that our schedule is not tough. What some have said is that you do not know how SOS will play out until the end of next year. Delhomme's comment in the article was spot on.....San Diego was 4-12 the previous year....they went 12-4 the next year. You have no idea who will be tough and who will not.

Last year the Bucs were expected to win the division...see what happened.

The Cowboys were a SB calibre team....did not even make the playoffs.

Atlanta was regarded as the 31st ranked team....and they finished 11-5 and in the playoffs.

SOS based on last year's records in an interesting side note....nothing more.

I hate so much that HE IS A LOSER WHEN HE THROWS 30+ passes stat for any QB. I can't even tell you how much I hate it. Ok I can. I have always thought it was so much BS that I actually spent a bit of time here looking at all the main starters and their teams' records when they threw 30+ passes. Guess what I found? Even guys people think of as top notch are usually on teams that are right around or below .500 when their QBs pass 30+ times. Why? Well duh, it usually means your defense sucks and you are playing catch up.

The only QBs whose teams had pretty good record in that situation (which with THIS stat is a game or two above .500!) had one thing in common: a top ten scoring defense (P. Manning, E. Manning, Pennington, Cassel, Collins, McNabb & Roethlisberger).

The record when Delhomme throws 30+ times in a game is a bit misleading. When we're throwing the ball that often that means we're far behind and/or the run game isn't effective. Either way we're probably going to lose and that's not something you can all put on Jake.

    • They can’t reasonably fire a rookie head coach who was saddled with one of the worst first overall QBs of all time. And at times made said QB look decent to serviceable.  If the team was 3-11 at this point next season, fire everyone.
