Jussi Jokinen Shines In Pittsburgh Win

Recommended Posts

The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Rangers in a shootout tonight and Jokinen was the main reason why.

Jokinen potted the only Pittsburgh goal in regulation, wristing one home a minute into the third. The Rangers fought back and tied the game with five minutes to go and after a goalless overtime period, it was on to the shootout. In the shootout, Jokinen scored the only goal as he led the Penguins to a victory.

Jokinen finished as the second star with 1 goal, 1 shot, 100% shooting percentage 1 point, +1, 1 takeaway, 13 faceoff's won, 86.7 faceoff percentage (led team), and 1 shootout goal.

Great job Jussi, get us that draft pick!!!

I don't know if it's our coaching that is lacking or simply bad luck. Let's think here...Jussi is a top 6 guy. He's not a 3rd liner, and CERTAINLY not a 4th liner. He is a goal scorer. That is his role. Our top 6 here can't really be touched for Jussi. Tlusty, you would think, should be a 2nd line at BEST, preferably 3rd line. He is good, but not THAT good. He shines due to the attention that Staalsy and Semin get. He is often left alone backside for a wide open look at the net, and that is where he scores a lot of his goals. He's sort of like Dupuis in Pittsburgh. A 3rd line guy who is on the 1st line because he does have chemistry with the top line guys and he shines due to the attention drawn to the top line guys.

If you look at the 2nd line (at least, prior to Ruutu and Rosie coming back), you would think he'd fit there, but he simply doesn't have the chemistry with Jordan and Skinner. He just doesn't fit, and you HAVE to have 3 guys that can play together on the same line for it to work. So, he's relegated back, facing nothing but top lines on a line with guys who simply can't hang most of the time. Our 3rd line is out there to survive and give a quick breather to the top 6, our checking line is out there to wear out the opposing scorers and kill a little time if we have the lead. That is what we do. Jussi doesn't fit here, as much as it pains me to see it. But, it would seem he has never truly fit anywhere (Dallas, Tampa, here). He is a mercenary, in that respect. He goes, he scores his goals, and once his services are no longer needed, he moves to his next job. He hasn't had a REAL good year since the 09 season, I think. He'll be in Pittsburgh next year, most likely, we'll get our 6th rounder, and then after next year or the year after, he'll be a free agent that we may bring back on a one year contract so he can retire here, if he chooses. Regardless, good for him.

Jokinen had another solid game today, he tallied 1 goal and 2 assists in the Pens 3-2 win over Boston.

In six games with the Pens, he has recorded 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points and is a +4.

Should have gotten more then what they did for him. I figured he'd catch fire when he got traded.
