My first ever mock draft

Hi, this will be my first ever mock draft, based on everything I have read and seen on the upcomming draft class. I did two scenario’s:

- First scenario is how I see things happening

- Second scenario is how I would like to see things happening, that is: trading back

With the latest FA signings Gettleman did, I still see this as problem positions within our roster: CB,SS,DT,OT,WR.

Scenario 1:

Pick 1 : DT Star Lotulelei

Offense wins games, defense wins championships. We really need 1 more big body up front. With Floyd’s stock rising last couple of weeks, I can see Star available at #14. BPA within a position of need: no-brainer for me. Can make our front 7 scary good.

Pick 2 : SS Jonathan Cyprien

I’m not quite sure he’ll be available at position 44, but at most mock’s, he’s projected round 2. So not that impossible as many might think… would be an absolute steal. If not available, I’d go WR with Quinton Patton.

Pick 4 : CB Sanders Commings

Panthers have shown lot of interest in Commings so far, and I don’t think they’ll wait till round 5 and risk him to be picked up. I can even see us picking him in round 4. Commings has great talent, coverage skills and speed.

Pick 5 : OT Chris Faulk

Prospect that had an excellent sophomore season at LSU, but suffered a knee injury early 2012. Give him time to adjust, and we may have excellent value at pick 5 later in the season. I do think, with this draft, Gettleman gets another OT in FA.

Pick 6 : K Caleb Sturgis

Yea, we absolutely need a reliable kicker in here. Sturgis can fill our needs.

Scenario 2

Alright, scenario 2 is a scenario where we trade back with the Vikings, and we get their 1st round pick at 25, and their second round pick at position 52.

Pick 2,4,5 and 6 stay the same from scenario 1 , so I’ll only discuss our new nr 1 pick and our extra nr 2 pick.

Pick 1 : DT Kawann Short

Yeah, I’ll stay on the DT wagon, great value to pick up in first round. I’m not as impressed as with Star, but Short will also boost our defense. Instant plug-in.

Pick 2 at 52: Quinton Patton

I like the guy. Showed great hands, routes and production. Even with the Hixon signing, this would be a quality add.

Also in this scenario, I think Gettleman adresses the OT need in FA.

If star is there, this would be a great direction. The only thing is I'm beginning to think I'd rather get a TE in the later rounds rather than developmental OL. Then get a OG vet in the FA.

Scenario 1 would be outstanding. However, Star falling would be a minor miracle enough as it is and I think Cyprien will be a late 1st so both falling to our picks would be incredible. Would love scenario 1, would be happy enough with scenario 2.

Yeah I thought about a TE,but wasnt familiar with the TE players at later rounds.

agreed, and i like that 2nd scenario better.

we need another playmaker on offense. we need another WR. i'll be ok with a draft that doesn't have one, but i think we'd be missing out.

Scenario 1 might be too optimistic maybe, but Star is seen as 'top 16', and Cyprien early-mid 2nd.

I'm really starting to fall more and more out of favor with Star. The gap between him and Floyd just seems to seem larger and larger every time I take to watching them.
