Anyone else think it's a strong possibillity we trade D-will on draft day?

The Panthers have made it no secret that we are open to trade talks about D-Will. I could possibly see Gettlemen making a move on draft day sending Williams somewhere for maybe a 3rd and a 4th round pick (hard to tell what the market would be for him). Could anyone else see this happening?

It makes sense for us to do it as a June 1st trade not now. And not for a 4th. I don't doubt we have been shopping him, there is no magic in waiting until draft day when we can do the deal at anytime up until then for a draft pick this year. Might get a good 2014 draft pick for him though, especially if it was conditional and Williams plays well.

I'd guess a 5th at best and he'd have to be willing to renegotiate his contract. In other words, he'd have to be willing to go to the team we worked the trade out with and be willing to take a pay cut to do it.

In other words, it ain't gonna happen. He'll be a Panther this season and he'll be cut next off-season.

    • Great observation. Previous GMs could have improved their draft results by just opening up the huddle. It’s sad.
    • I'm not opposed to keeping him depending on the money. If he's going to count against the cap anyway (which the void year does) it's not the worst move unless an extension significantly raises his cap number. Even if it's just a 1-year deal that pays him a little more than what he's already on the books for. When he's been on the field he's been really good, but the issue is obviously injuries. I will say, having Corbett back as the starter would also give us good depth since Cade Mays can move into the backup role. That could be key if (more likely when) Brady Christensen leaves. Hard to say right now without seeing the potential terms of any new deal.
    • It sounds like QB Tyler Slough is flying up the draft boards, he’s a bit older, but so was Nix, Penix etc. He might, just might, be someone teams want to trade up to get around where we pick 🤞
