Would you trade up for Star Lotulelei?

I wouldn't give up any of this years picks. However the situation i see is jumping ahead of tampa who would have no problem taking him. So were talking moving up two spots. For the best defensive tackle in the class i wouldn't have a problem for giving up as much as say a 3 next season.

My biggest dislike of moving up is that it costs you so much. You had better be sure the kid is who you think he is, and you had better be ready to win now, as it eats at your future. You better be sure he is an impact type player, cuz if you overreach, you have lost two steps instead of one. That said. If we get a top tenish talent. I would think the chances he busts would be rather small. So I don't buy into that worry over those exaggerated busts rates thingys. Get me the tenth best athlete and he starts day one.

This is why I want to take a WR at 14. One of these guys can be an impact player, and it will set us up to pull an Atlanta within the next 2 drafts after and move up for another WR to solidify the #1 and #2 for years to come. This allows Smitty to take a lesser role and/or retire, without leaving us scrambling.

Going defense in this manner, I just don't see it. Especially the way the league is heading, you need firepower at the 2 WR spots.

PFT's latest mock actually has Lotulelei falling to us. They have the Eagles taking Sheldon Richardson at #4.

Other picks of interest:

Luke Joeckel #1 to the Chiefs

Chance Warmack #8 to the Bills

Cordarrelle Patterson #9 to the Jets

Keenen Allen #11 to the Chargers

Eric Fisher #12 to the Dolphins

Tavon Austin #13 to the Bucs (good grief, I'd hate that :( ).

Kenny Vacarro, Jonathan Cooper and Lane Johnson are among those who fall past our pick in this model.

Should probably mention that Mike Florio's skill as a mock drafter is, shall we say, suspect.

Yea, I posted about his first mock a few weeks ago. It's ridiculously bad. Chargers pass on Fisher and Johnson for Keenan Allen?!!? Saints take a GUARD?!! I seriously think he was throwing darts at a board after the first pick. I'd love it if his dart-pick happened for us, but these two mocks of his were the worst I've seen this draft season.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to trading up for generational type guys at their position, but they have to be as close to surefire prospects as can be. That being said, I don't believe that Star Lotulelei is Ndamukong Suh or Albert Haynesworth when they hit the NFL. If he falls to us, then maybe I take him because he's maybe the best DT there this year, but I wouldn't sacrifice next year's second (unless the prospects at DT coming out next year are not thought to be in Star's league).

Look no further than Keenan Allen at 11 with Fisher and Johnson on the board.

As for Star, should the 3 LTs be gone before 11, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Star ends up in San Diego
