My Mock (version 1)

This is what i think the Panthers will do, not necessarily what I would do.

Round 1: Kenny Vaccaro, Safety. I doubt the Panthers are sold on a DT at 14 after Star is gone,, so instead they bolster the secondary. Either way I believe defense is the pick here.

Round 2: Stedman Bailey, Wide receiver. Many might say this is early for him but the Panthers obviously love this guy. He has worked out with Proehl and met privately with the team. This is the guy they like as a weapon for Cam.

Round 4: Bennie Logan, Defensive tackle. Try hard guy that can play 3 tech and fill in at nose. He has some upside to him and will start Day 1.

Round 5: Sanders Commings, CB/S. Another guy the Panthers have met with a couple of times. Can play corner and safety.

Round 6: Ricky Wagner, Offensive tackle. Offensive line depth. Likely a right tackle in the pros but might get a look at guard as well.

If that is what the Panthers do, I won't be particularly happy. Only two late picks in the trenches, where we need the most help. Don't like Vacarro at #14, there's at least 2, maybe 3 Safeties I'd rather have (but not in the 1st). I definitely wouldn't want Bailey in the 2nd, I'd rather have any of these WRs before him: Hunter, Hopkins, Allen, Austin, Patton, Patterson, Rogers, Woods and maybe Swope. I don't think all 9 of them will be taken before #44.... No problem with Logan in the 4th if we're foolish enough to ignore DT until then. No complaint about the last two, except that we waited til the 6th round to address the OL.

I certainly grade Vaccaro as the top safety in the draft but three things on this to consider:

1 - Rivera has repeatedly said Godfrey is the teams FS

2 - The Panthers signed Mitchell a SS to push DJ Campbell at SS (where he played at end of year)

3 - Panthers have worked out / visited with 3 safeties (Cyprien, Elam, Williams) all SS prospects

I personally would be fine with Vaccaro because of the way he shut down Tavon Austin and can cover players in the slot.

Not a fan of Vaccaro in the 1st. Decent draft otherwise.

I do think people are overlooking our interest in Bailey but I agree with better options being available at 44. Him and Wheaton are two guys that I'd love to have but will fall between our 2 & 4th picks if we don't make any moves barring any crazy draft day dropoffs.

No no no, 1 thing, with the additions of wrs and secondary players weve added in free agency, and the continued growth of our own young wrs and cbs , neither of those are of 1st and 2nd round importance, plus next years wr class will be better, so... we need to protect cam and reestablish our run game, that's why I say 1st round (depending if they fall) either warmack, cooper or lane Johnson, period. Any of the 3 will help anchor our line for many years, and give cam a sense we want him to stay. Then in the 2ndround ... we go anchor the DLine with players like (I pray) j. Williams, or hankins (OSU),Sylvester Williams, bcuz with less time to pass then we give less time to get open, and then we can get a players like Mathieu in the 4th, but I know if STAR falls to 14, we will take him, if that happens it will mess up our draft.
