Hixon was named one of the 'best of the rest' by PFF

When someone suggested a DT and a safety in another thread you argued it did nothing to fix the OL. Neither does this, no?

Someone suggested we win the division with a DT and S.....we need better OL play than 2012 to win the division (and Kalil alone coming back doesn't fix that)

I do not want to draft OL in this draft (not high). We still need to address G play in FA and likely RT as well...but definitely G play

sorry for brief sidetrack:

there is no statistic that tells a story without context. no matter how objectively and/or abstractly you grade a play, it does not happen in a vacuum. PFF writers continually quote their all-encompassing score for players' seasons, games, in relation to what roles they should play, what money they should get in FA, and so on. they are doing their own hard work a disservice by not trying to interpret their findings beyond "5.0 is better than -1.3" type fingerpainting. advanced models in other sports are usually cast in context by writers in much more illuminating ways than PFF does. i would love for them to realize this, because they have a lot of people's attention right now with the grading they do.

Yeah, they do have a problem with the fact that they generally understand their grades, but no one else does. I've mentioned it a couple of times, but it's hard to clarify the grades without revealing all of the scores, which is what they want people to pay for.

Like what kinda scores? I never really understood what PFF premium really provided the consumers anyways.. (Serious question though)

they've got the most in depth stats of anyone for any player at any time. their stats are used by many analysts and sports outlets. that's the thing that they do best. it used to be free.

Booooooooo. Lol but what I really meant ask is, do all those fancy advanced premium stats really calculate to add up to that one be all-end all single digit "+_._" or "-_._" score that I never understood how they got in the damn first place?!!?!!!1111??qqq?1

So what does that mean? He's the best of the worst? Just so everyone knows, he's has worse stats than Lafell over his career... and that is with playing 3 years longer... So whatever you expect out of this guy, don't get your hopes up.

Lafell was a starter the past 3 years, Hixon was a backup to two very good receivers. You can't compare them on stats.

debateable whether hixon is better or worse than lafell. lafell's had more opportunity mostly because hixon has been on a team with a lot more talent at WR than us and he's been hurt more.

i think ginn and hixon are better than anyone in our WR corps besides smith and lafell, but that's not saying much. i think those guys are essentially the bottom end of the receiving corps or help establish it. it's making the corps as a whole stronger.

the mistake would be resting on that. we need another legit threat picked up in the draft at receiver. so i'm on board with the idea of drafting one early. doesn't have to be in the first, just one of the first couple.

it would be interesting to see where lafell would be on their depth chart and what his numbers would be like with the small number of opportunities that hixon has had.
