The hate is strong with Peter King

Holy crap, your IQ is on par with dirt.

Brandon Stokley only has one season with 1,000+ yds in 14 years and yet he's still considered an 'impact' player because of his ability to get first downs.

Stokely is a role player. Not an impact WR. Just like Hixon isn't an impact player...

At least Stokley is a proven and consistant roleplayer.

Your defition of an impact player is so broad it would include most players...which makes the usage of it basically irrelevant

Ok that is your opinion. I could see this as well. I just expect the "National Sportswriter of the Year" to be able to elaborate and give a little detail on why it was such an irrelevant signing. Someone obviously cared enough they sought out the high and might Peter King and his valuable opinion on football.

I wonder if he would have shared the same opinion if the Patriots signed him?

But you answered your own question....

National sports writer is being asked about someone who will compete for the 3rd or 4th WR spot in Carolina. No one outside Carolina would are or think it matters

... and that.

Seriously, I see nothing wrong with King's response. I wonder if there would be any threads made saying how much we missed out on Hixon had he signed on another team.

I have to ask, are you a dolt, or you lying your ass off to support your cynicism? You BSed your way through our Cam Newton debate, and now re-defining what makes a player impactful on offense? I can't think of anything else to describe first downs other than crucial and vital.

Utilimately, yes, Hixon will be a role player, but Gettleman didn't sign him to be a space filler. Dave is fully aware of what Hixon brings to the table [chain-mover]. He did that in New York all last year.

Stokley is more consistent? When? He's virtually the identical player to Hixon -- slot receiver with dependable hands who comes up big on third downs.

You are the only one on this board claiming an impact WR is someone who picked up a 3rd down in a game.

Smitty has been an impact WR throughout his career.....he has dictated opposing gameplans. Hixon again is only an impact WR per you....and YOUR definition of impact WR is irrelevant bc it includes just about any WR that sees then field and makes a catch.

Stokley is entering is 15th freaking season....being a roleplayer. He is more dependable and consistant in his role bc he hasnt had health issues. But hi cares....he isn't an impact WR. He is a roleplayer....that just comes in and does his job if the real impact guys are in place.

And I have no clue what Cam Newton debate you are talking about.....are the one claiming Newton is going to suddenly play like Eli Manning now that Gettlemen is our "OC"? Newton will run....like always....there is nothing to support otherwise in 2013

Why was it so irrelevant mr sports writer of the year? Because YOU said so?

No, bc no one outside Carolina cares about who is competing for the # 3 or 4 WR spot here this time of year.

Hey lets talk about the 4th string WR in Kansas City....we care about that right?

Stokley is more consistent than Hixon because he doesn't have health issues? You might want do research before you type anything fictitious, chief. Brandon has missed 56 games since 2001 (not including playoffs). Try again.

At this point, you have to be trolling. There cannot be any other reason for disregarding Hixon's (who, ironically, was called an impact player by Giant fans) clutch hands and predicting what type of production he'll amass in 2013. Then again, you are CRA.

Right, because you're the genius that fabricated a statement from Chud citing that Cam would need 7-8 years before he transforming into a pocket passer. It's hilarity only worsens especially since Chud was recently interviewed, and touched on Newton's capabilities as a passer.

Longevity matters....again, he is entering his 15th NFL season. An impressive feat for any player. But again, the fact you are talking about Stokley again reinforces the fact Hixon isn't an impact WR, just like Stokley isn't

I got no issue with the Hixon move as he is better than the likes of Edwards, Pilares, etc. Only issue is you proclaiming he is an impact WR....and he isn't....only per your definition.

I'll go see if I can find Chud's "plan" per Chud on his perceived timeline for you....trolling is claiming suddenly Cam Newton will play the game like Eli Manning in 2013....NOT that he will continue to run

“A lot of those things we actually worked through over the course of the two years,” Chudzinski said. “Going forward, the thing is how long can he keep running as he gets older and as he progresses in his career? It’s one thing to have a college guy doing it. But when a guy’s in his seventh year or eighth year, you want to have transitioned by that time.”

Nothing suggests Newton will stop running in 2013.....Newton not running much is a big picture idea that factors in his age and development. As Chud talked about....

The 24 yr old, 3rd year player....will continue to be a nightmare on the ground in 2013.

But continue on talking about how Hixon is an impact WR and Newton will run as much as Eli Manning in 2013... I won't bother with such things anymore but there are better conversations to e had currently like the draft.

That's your evidence? The point Chud was making was that by Cam's 7th or 8th season, he should already have surpassed that stage in his career where he won't need a gimmick offense like the Read Option to propel him to success. By his 8th season, Cam should be running a more conventional offense and be a QB that makes more plays with his arm rather than his legs. Nowhere in that statement does Chud allude to Cam needing a 7-8 plan to make the transition. In fact, judging by what Chud said a month ago, Cam should be taking a big step this season or next season into relying more on his arm and receivers than on himself to score. Newton doesn't need to accumulate 700+ yds on the ground when we've got Tolbert, Stewart and, for the meantime, Williams to run the ball.

Newton being involved in fewer run designed plays doesn't make him Eli Manning either. It shows sincerity that Carolina wants Cam to be around for a decade at least. If Newton continues to take copious amounts of hits (most hit QB in the last two years -- beating out Cutler and Vick), then he won't be.

No, that was me calling you on your talk. I used fact and Chud's actual input....which you claimed was made up.

I have Newton's entire high school, college and NFL career to date as my evidence...

I have his NFL OC who worked under his CURRENT HC talk about the LONG term view with his age, development, all being factored in.

YOU? You don't have anything outside a remark by an OLD Gettlemen asked about what has been his view of QBs running prior to even legitimately being apart of what Ron/Cam are.....

Read option isn't a gimmick and nor Newton, nor Rivera, nor Gettlemen himself have said Cam running or the read option is going away this year.

If you want to watch a QB play like Eli watch Eli....Cam will set his own model. Simple and plain.

They likely will work him away from some goaline piles but that is about it....bc Cam is a NATURAL runner. To a large degree it won't even matter what the OC calls....same reason Steve Young was running all over the place at near 40.

Go look at Steve Young....Newton will run overall slightly more than that and should....and will shatter his numbers along the way

if he starts at WR3 he'll be about the best WR3 in the league you could ask for, and i don't think gettleman is going to ignore the need for a future WR1.

in other words this is an awesome signing and i'm not sure why anyone is being a bitch about it.

I think everyone likes the signing. I do.

Some just disagree with how some are overrating/overvaluing him...for example claiming he now dictates how Carolina uses there first round pick and there plan to move on from the Smith WR era to give Cam a new 1
