NFL now mandating teams to install video cameras in locker rooms

The NFL continues to look for ways to make the in-stadium experience more valuable for fans. The next wrinkle: Letting fans see inside the locker room.

SportsBusiness Journal reported Wednesday that next season, the NFL will mandate that teams install cameras in home locker rooms. Video content from the locker rooms then can be used on team apps, and during halftime and other breaks in the game at the stadium. It's important to note the use of locker-room footage is optional, even if the cameras are mandated.

"The content will be available only in-stadium, and the content will be available only of the home team," NFL Executive VP/Business Ventures Eric Grubman told SBJ on Wednesday. "You can show it or not show it."

The NFL Competition Committee debated this topic extensively, settling on the compromise that a team doesn't have to use the locker-room footage. (Frankly, I'm not sure I want to see a Bill Belichick pregame speech. Some things should be left to the imagination.)

While teams don't have to use the locker-room footage, home teams will be made to show important replays in the stadium even if that replay doesn't necessarily help the home team's cause.

Grubman said, "We're going to mandate replays, not just after a disputed call but after a whole series of important plays, fumbles, out of bounds. Now it doesn't matter if you want your technician to favor the home team. You're not going to have a choice. Why? Just listen to the fans."

In the past, home teams often didn't show replays that are anti-home team. Now teams will be required to show all big plays. Teams are fighting an uphill battle to get fans off their couch. After all, you'll see the best replays by watching at home.

This is unnecessary imo.

I don't want to see inside the locker room but maybe for those teams that win playoff games, it would help to continue the fan party in the stadium. idk.

But to be required to show all the replays, that is awesome! It's been a long time coming. Panthers would rather show the teams huddling than showing the fans the last play.

    • Fair enough. I never once said not supporting Tepper makes you a bad fan by the way. I can't stand the guy myself. You on the other hand don't like anything about the team. You can't stand the owner or the coach because his religion doesn't fall in line with how you feel it should so I'm curious why you are even a fan at this point? Hell, you like nothing about the team, why even be a fan these days?  We can go backs and forth about how many games we have been to and measure dicks if you want or but it doesn't matter. I've been to my fair share over the years. Some as a fan and some work related but I bet you have been to more due to my weekends being filled with some work I do at the collegiate level so I probably only average maybe 2-3 games per year tops. You have me beat there im sure. You are probably very correct on us not being the same in anything at all I am quite sure of that. If I'm a "mark" (as you put it) for not liking Tepper and not caring about Canales religion or his political beliefs or letting it have weight on whether or not I like the team then call me a "mark" but you're still a whiny bitch either way.  When you hate everything about leadership from their personalities to their religious beliefs all the way to who they vote for at that point why even be a fan? I can side with you judging by your beliefs that you have made apparent, if you owned and coached the team, I sure as hell would find a new one to support but as you said we are different. Enjoy Norway, it is a beautiful country. Visited last year myself and absolutely loved it.
    • The playing well part, depends on what happens going forward. It could have been a tease that will dig our hole deeper.  In the small picture of one game, probably his best game. Green Bay wasn't as great as people think it was. More like one good quarter. Followed by two games of exactly nothing.
    • Oh, it was handled horrifically.  Ego got in the way of a plan.  I'm just saying, that he actually probably stumbled into the better outcome/plan.
