all i will say on this topic about smitty, he will know when his time is up. he is an athletic that pays for his lifestyle for being on the field no doubt but i think he is more of a company man than most give him credit for which means he clocks himself to see where he is. i most certainly would like to think that he will go to the organization and let them know if he thinks there is a major decline. as long as he is out there i will consider him a top notch until talks are made a strong aggressive approach is made at finding a number 1 receiver. i dont think he is the type to ride untl the wheels falloff.

There is no WR in this draft that is a legit / sure fire number 1. You draft a WR at 14 and they will not be a huge upgrade over Lafell and Hixon imo

We are better served going another route like DT, CB, S, or OG.

And no sure fire/legit CB, S, DT or G at 14 either

I like 2 WRs better than the rest, and both should be available in round 2. Robert Woods and Stedman Bailey. Every time I watch Geno highlights, a bunch of balls are going to Bailey. He has great hands. Woods is very polished and his stock is down because USC was down.

I like Keenan Allen too, but I do not think we would take him in the first unless we drop.

Tavon Austin is electric, but he comes from a spread offense. In our offense, he would take more hits than he did in WV. Can 180 lbs handle that in the NFL? Maybe, but risky IMO.

Patterson has some incredible moves, but he is raw and might take 2 years to develop. Reminds me of Hill (Ga Tech) last year.

CB....agree with you

S....possible

DT....I think there are as close to sure fire as there is in the first round for a DT

G....you are way off. Cooper and Warmack are guaranteed studs.

The best receiving corps this team ever had took the field under Fox.They made real attempts to restock, they all just sucked.

yeah even though almost all the attempts at it were only moderately successful at the absolute best you can't knock hurney for trying

-keyshawn johnson was supposed to be a 2 year rental for a team supposedly on the cusp of a super bowl run but it didn't work out that way

-keary colbert looked to be a future star based on his rookie season but he never came close to a repeat performance

-dj hackett was considered a good signing with nice upside at the time

-dwayne jarrett had all the physical tools in the world to be a rock solid possession receiver for a decade but he couldn't get his poo straight

agreed. if they were, they probably wouldn't have lasted that long....well, maybe OG, but they shouldn't be drafted that early anyway.

point is, at that point in the draft they all come with some risk and developing that needs to be done. one could slide, but you can't count on that. the hope is going to be there that they can come right in and contribute at a high/respectable level but you understand that it may take some time and developing. every draft pick is a project. none are 100% ready for the pro level.
