Panthers sign Hixon

Smitty will be the primary target but they appeared to clearly alter the routes he ran last year.....he is losing steps. Probably will lose more this year. Smith can run tons of routes well and get open....but we are a vertical offense without the vertial deep threat at this stage. Which is kinda funny.

We also couldn't block for deep routes as well. So that will need to be fixed.

i think they are all required to. if news outlets want to be considered relevant, they have to be active in twitter. social media is forcing news outlets to branch out into social networking.

He is the Panthers beat writer. He doesn't need to drum up publicity.

I've been thinking that we'd go WR at 14 but with the signing of Hixon, I'm not so sure. Not b/c Hixon is so great of a WR but b/c I put on par or slightly above LaFell and that gives us 1 great and 2 very good WR's. One of the WR's behind those 3, may break-out. 89 is always double teamed, so they'll have 1 on 1 cvg.

Smith easily could go from great to good any day now...crafty and tough may be the best way to describe him soon. THAT is a pretty big issue.

Issue with Hixon is he doesn't really bring a ton more to the table than LaFell...

I would only allow my writers to tweet links to their articles. Twitter does nothing but circumvent the point of media..which is to sell advertising.

Agreed. I like LaFell as a #2 to a great #1. We don't know what he'd be without playing opposite a great #1.

Smitty has single handedly been holding this WR corps down since Moose retired. With him, we find a way to make it work. Without him, you look at our WR corps and it may just be the worst in the entire league.

Smitty is 34. That's why I think WR is very much in play in the 1st. I hope we don't wait until Smitty is obviously on the decline before we try to address this issue. Hell, for all we know, he is and it'll show up this year. I hope not, but he's 34 and much of his game is based on quickness. Age is not kind to quickness. I'm shocked he's still playing at this level at this age.

If WR is BPA at 14 we will take a receiver. It's that simple.

This team still needs a #1 waiting in the wings for when 89 hands it off to him and moves to the slot to finish out his career here in Carolina.

It would be that simple if determining the best player available was scientific.

he could go from great to good any day now because he's shown signs of it or because that's what the media keeps pumping out. The fact is, Smith is a great WR!

i hate to say it but smitty already went from great to good last season. Hopefully we don't see him go from good to average this year.

then you'd be missing out. now i know this could be some long drawn out debate, but I'm not going to waste my time with it because you likely won't buy it...just like most pointless debates in here between anyone (not just you).

I'll just say that the majority of the people today look to those who use social media as their quick and easy source of information. when you make use of it, whether pointing to your site or not, you are building credibility and authority and giving people a reason to click your links. it's helping drive traffic when you want it and it's keeping people involved.

does it work in you? maybe, maybe not but you'd be in the minority. writers have to show they are in top of things if people in the growing majority if those using social media for their information. they have to do it to remain relevant.it's a necessity.

if he wants to be taken seriously by most using twitter and other social networks (which is most people) then he does.

people value getting info quick and they want to get it when it happens. thats why 24 hour news channels beat out nightly news, why the internet beat out 24 hour news channels, and why twitter is dominating the internet for the relaying of news.

as i said a minute ago, that's what builds a reputation...not who you're employed by. most could care less who someone works for as long as they can deliver the scoop.

Very few are willing to see his decline.....

A 16 game season...1100 yards, 4 TDs and they completely altered his routes....

He is still a weapon....but he isn't going to be able to mask the weak talent at WR he has in prior years going forward. Cant just add Gin and Hixon and think everything will be fine like when 89 was young.

Cam Newton is just begging for a vertical threat
