it's not obvious...much less "hilariously" obvious.

smitty, lafell, ginn, and hixon have very little to do with us taking or not taking a WR in the first. i might not happen, but it's not any less likely than DT, S, or CB. definitely not less likely than OL.

Steve Smith should be a #2....and LaFell is more of a 2/3 guy.

We are a vertical pas offense with NO vertical threat WR at this stage...Ginn doesn't count bc he isn't good enough to be on the field consistantly.

Smith could also retire after this year....leaving Cam with little.

it all depends on how good he is and how he's added to the scheme. it's not unlikely that a guy they pick up in the first couple rounds would pass up lafell...not that it would matter much. 3rd WR is pretty much a starting gig anyway with very similar number of reps as the 2WR guy. more WRs are used.

and whose to say that the WR wouldn't help us win more? it's obvious that the team is looking at WRs that will be taken early and the addition of hixon and ginn just bring up the bottom. they don't add to the corps the way a guy we draft would and they probably wouldn't hang around for as long. hixon and ginn are short term solutions. for that matter, so is lafell. his contract is up the same time that ginn and hixon are.

i'm not saying that WR is or isn't going to be the pick, but i don't see how anyone with a clear view of the situation can work in absolutes the way that you are.

btw...i'm not sure keeping cheese under your balls is advisable.

there's several guys available who could be considered 1b to smitty's 1a. allen, patterson, austin, hunter, patton, hopkins, and rogers could all pretty easily bump ahead of lafell on the depth chart or even in terms of targets and production. it wouldn't be that hard to do, tbh.

I think Hunter Allen Patterson and Hopkins can developed into 1. It will take a few years for Patterson. But Patton and Rogers are number #2 or low level number #1.

dancing around them? no. answering completely looking at it from a bigger picture than you are? yeah, probably that.

i think we could take a DT. i think we could take a safety. i think we could take a corner. i think we could take a WR. i think we could even take an OT or even an OG (tho not likely on that last one).

i'm not ruling really any of those choices out.

him being a defensive coach doesn't have much to do with it. they are obviously looking at WRs among other several positions on both sides of the ball.

i think even paterson could be considered one by years end due to production and involvement. obviously a team that takes him is going to be enamored with his potential and the multitude of ways that he can be used and will get him involved quite a bit. it may be a few years before he's polished, but it won't be a few years before he's productive. it all depends on the team and the scheme and the situation as a whole.

Smith is a number 2 on how many teams? i'd say well over half of the teams in the league as a #1.
