Your Top 5 @ 14

Recommended Posts

Assume we are not trading down and staying put at fourteen: Who are your top five favorite and realistic prospects for the Panthers to select 14th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft?

Mine?

1. Star Lotulelei DT Utah: May be a bit of a pipe-dream for Star to fall to us at 14 but it is still in the realm of possibility though chances are slim. He is the best defensive tackle in this draft in my opinion and would instantly allow us to have one of the best front fours and sevens in the league.

2. Jonathan Cyprien S Florida International: Most may not be familiar with this name but he has been climbing draft boards ever since he put on a show at the senior bowl and out-shined many of the other prospects at his position from major schools. Good size, good instincts, and an aggressive player that plays at full speed and 100% at all times. Praised for his leadership as well as his ball skills and is no slouch in coverage, Cyprien is my sleeper for the Panthers selection at 14 and we have already shown considerable interest in him this off-season.

3. Tavon Austin WR West Virginia: The best playmaker and most electric player in this draft. This offense needs playmakers and Austin is just that. Tavon is a threat to go the distance every time the he gets the ball in his hands.

4. Keenan Allen WR Cal: A big and polished receiver who would instantly bolster our receiving core and make our offense more lethal and potent. If the injury concerns check out and he is cleared medically at his April 9th workout for the Panthers, he is a very realistic option and could potentially be the steal of the draft at 14. I think he is a much better athlete than people give him credit for and he will prove this to our scouts and general manager on the 9th.

5. Jonathan Cooper G North Carolina: Cooper over Warmack? Cooper proved he was a better athlete at the combine and he is more versatile and able to play the three interior linemen positions. If we do not fill the RG position in free agency this off-season we need to protect our Franchise at all cost. Cooper would likely struggle out of the gate as rookies tend to do on the offensive line but the potential to be great is there and I still believe he would be an instant upgrade to any of our other options at guard on our roster. Not a flashy pick by any means, but as far as best player available goes, Cooper could be that guy.

Allen

Vaccaro

Lotulelei

Patterson

Johnson was my 5th but there's no chance he's there.

Allen is a great receiver prospect, the most complete one in this class, and is my guy right now.

Lotulelei if he falls for obvious reasons.

Vaccaro is one of the better coverage safeties to come out in a few years and I giggle whenever I see some misinformed poster ranting about the time where they were watching his youtube highlights and he missed a tackle

Patterson's rawness is vastly overstated by this board and he has the potential to be the best receiver in this class

Still working on a replacement fifth guy.

x2

Even though I'd love Star or my personal favorite in this draft Warmack, I have a weird feeling we'll draft Cyprien either at #14 or trading down. I'm not a fan of Vaccaro and if we do take a saftey in the 1st, I'd rather it be Cyprien.

Lotulelei is not realistic, especially now. I realize my list won't match many, but I'm okay with that.

1. Lane Johnson (I think it's possible, and he's too good to pass up)

2. Patterson

3. Warmack/Cooper (whichever one is still on the board)

4. Trufant

5. Richardson (not a NT, but still an elite player)

i tried, but i can't narrow it down to even 5. i'm not even going to mess around with an order.

my favorites...

star/williams/floyd/hankins (want someone who can stuff the run, eat up blockers, and disrupt the pocket)

allen/austin/patterson (playmakers/TD scorers)

vaccaro/cyprien (playmakers/DB upgrade...have to admit liking cyprien more)

xavier rhodes (big CB to go against big WRs)

don't really want any OL in the first. not a fan of rookies on the OL this year. we need experience.
