Kiper on Panthers draft

lol have you even bothered to watch Patterson?

"ZOMG Patterson doesn't even know what the wide receiver position is!!!"

Being as raw as Patterson is isn't a "small knock". It's a major concern. Most of the big busts in each draft typically fit into the "well, he's raw, but he has tremendous upside" category.

Yes. He's raw as hell. Body catches everything, sloppy routes, doesn't look explosive until the ball is actually in his hands.

He's a project, period. I don't want a project at #14.

And I think he's overrated as a project. The Julio Jones comparisons are absurd. Julio is bigger, faster, and was a helluva lot more polished as WR coming out of college.

If we draft him, I hope he lives up to his potential and becomes great, but I hope we let someone else roll those dice.

Or, I could play your juvenile game...

"ZOMG Patterson's YouTube "game tape" is amazing and the draftniks say he's talented!!!"

Not to mention that last WR 's drafted top 15 with his Wr numbers and Exp. Meaning they were drafted more for athletic ability then actual skills and production at their pro position were. Darius Heyward Bay, Ted Ginn JR., and Troy Williams. Take a look how that worked out for those teams that drafted them.

Brandon LaFell last year in the NFL:

44 catches for 677 yards and 4 TDs

Cordarrelle Patterson last year in college:

46 catches for 778 yards and 5 TDs

Lafell 4.54 40 time

Patterson 4.42 40 time

in the nfl pattersons skills will allow him to attack the defenses vertically and beat defenders over the top which is something lafell cant do= more touchdowns. With the ball in his hands patterson is far more dangerous than lafell. Regardless of route running who do you think Cam would rather throw to if open. yea patterson

No way in hell. Lafell knows the offense is a better route runner and a better blocker. And for a team that will still run the ball a lot that is important.

why am i notice surpised you showed up. its amazing you didnt get here faster to defend you buddy. if we got patterson he would put up more tds than lafell in his first year. we need touchdown scorers, patterson is that

The 40 time is the most overrated stat in football and #2 isn't even close. How many WRs have we seen get drafted high with mediocre stats but great measurables? How many of those guys end up working out?

Would Patterson be more dangerous after the catch than LaFell? Absolutely. But first, you gotta get open and catch the ball.

Yes. He's raw as hell. Body catches everything, sloppy routes, doesn't look explosive until the ball is actually in his hands.

This has been addressed ad nausem not only on this forum but by various draftniks. The only valid statement of the three points you suggested is that he body catches and even that is only a half truth. He consistently demonstrated the ability to make the tough, rangey catch at Tennessee when the situation demanded, and only used his body when the pass was in a position to allow him to. Combine that with the fact that he had a good catch percentage, and there really isn't a leg to stand on making that argument.

The other two things suggest that you've spent very little time watching him, or went in with a preconceived notion and were determined to find what you were looking for. Hes explosive off the line, quick in and out of his cuts, etc etc. It's almost comical how evident that your simply regurgitating something you heard somewhere before you spent 8 minutes watch his youtube highlights.

And I think he's overrated as a project. The Julio Jones comparisons are absurd. Julio is bigger, faster, and was a helluva lot more polished as WR coming out of college.

And it's been pretty well documented now that what you think isn't really worth anything. Your agenda based axe grinding doesn't really hold its own against the legion of analysts who find your opinion to be crap.

"ZOMG Patterson's YouTube "game tape" is amazing and the draftniks say he's talented!!!"

At least it's now been documented that you value your own (clearly worthless) opinion over credible draft workers.

What is a "credible draft worker"? The draft is an inexact science at best. Every single year there are busts and sleepers. Every year I have my favorites and guys I don't want. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. Just the same as these "credible draft workers".

Most of those guys have no ability to just football talent. They're just taking second hand info fed to them by scouts, much of which is likely intentionally misleading.

Those guys that go way higher or "slip" in the draft? They didn't shoot up boards or plummet at the last second. The "credible draft workers" just took the troll bait.

The difference is that I don't claim to be an expert. I'm just a guy who has his favorite prospects and other prospects I don't really care for - nothing more, nothing less.

when it comes to touchdowns the 40 does play a factor.
