Funny thing is Delhomme didn't make the pro bowl in 2003. He made it in 2005 but his 2004 season was his best.

he had like the all time highest postseason passer rating of any active quarterback and the most road wins in the playoffs at one point.

there definitely are obnoxious delhomme fans; the kind of people who think a jake archetype is the only thing a quarterback can and should be and we'll never win anything until we bring in someone like him. that's completely different from appreciating what he gave this franchise.

Jason Peter was here for four years, started 20 games, and got 7.5 sacks and 65 tackles.

Norbert Davidds-Garrido was mediocre and couldn't open a hole to save his life.

Rashard Anderson was awful and easily the biggest draft bust in Panther history

Bad players didn't just start in 2004...

Almost every O lineman during Siefert's reign was horrible. Putting it all on NDG without considering he played with Clarence Jones and Frank Garcia is a little rough.

Clarence Jones was so bad I wanted Brockermeyer back.

And its easy to remember the players you hated and the years you can say they ruined the season. Kevin Greene 1997. Collins 1998 Weinke 2001. Ken Lucas 2008. Jimmy 2010. Sherrod Martin 2011. Nakamura 2012.

For me: Jimmy Clausen.

Clausen is hands down the worst thing to ever happen to this team. His 2010 was far worse than David Carr or any other QB we ever had.. The offense was historically awful. At least Weinke's 1-15 season had us in a lot of games and there were moments of possible greatness there. Kerry Collins took us to a NFC championship game.

Clausen is Rodney Pete..in that first half of that game where he had 15 yrds but for a season n probally the rest of his career. I was begging for David Carr to come back..

I would call the suicide hotline on Sundays as I was so depressed by Q1 seeing 12 passes batted to the ground or sail out of bounds.

He is symbolically all of the Panther's failures in one person to me.

^This sums it up. I could go old school too if I wanted to flex knowlwsge of team history but to ignore Clausen because he is recent is just dumb. He could be the worst player of the last two decades, in the whole NFL. Going to the stadium and sitting through his panicky throw always and horrible decisions would have me so pissed off. Then you add to the fact that Hurney almost traded away our 2011 first rounder to move up for Clausen? Now I have to sit and watch that bum consume a valuable roster space while wearing a fuging hoodie on the sidelines. Jimmy Clausen, hands down, the worst. And I am a bonafide Carr hater and Fua hater and Davidds-Garrardo hater.

A pretty strong argument can be made for Clausen.

I remember I was with a buddy when I heard we'd picked him. As I recall, I face palmed and said something not meant for polite company, primarily because there were still good receivers on the board.

When they drafted LaFell, I felt better. Tried to be as optimistic as I could about Clausen, but it was eventually useless.

These days, I wonder how much that pick contributed to the demise of Marty Hurney.

I guess some might say in that sense, it may have had some value after all.

1. Jimmy Clausen - Only player to ever make me question my Panther fanhood and wish that David Carr or Weinke would come back... I would take a revolving door of Rodney Peete, Vinny Testeverde, and Brian St. Pierre all season long than to never see him suit up in the black & blue ever again.... no stats needed to support... enough said

2. Rashard Anderson - 23rd pick in the 1st round of the 2000 draft, 2 seasons with the Panthers starting in 9 games. He played in only 27 games, managing a single interception. He did not play in either the 2002 or 2003 seasons as a result of substance abuse suspensions by the league...

3. Rae Carruth - picked with the 27th pick of the 1st round in the 1997 draft, spent three seasons with the Panthers. He finished his career with 62 catches totaling 4 touchdowns and 804 yards... Then murdered his pregnant girlfriend...

There may have been some worse players then those mentioned above, but I definitely factored in how high they were taken in the draft because it makes them that much worse to the franchise in my opinion...

I'm 27 and it's hard for me to identify bad players from the early days because I was still a kid and looked up to all the players. I'm sure it's similar for guys even younger than me. It's a terrible precedent to start calling everyone 2003 bandwagon fans because they don't have a strong working knowledge of the George Seifert era. Guys like Nick Hayden and Jimmy Clausen deserve the fanbase's ire even if it's recent history.
