Why do we play Arizona every year?

This used to be the NFL out of division schedule format...

1st and 4th of one division played 1st and 4th of other two NFC divisions. One year the 1st of the West would host the 1st of the East, then flip flop that the next. 5th place teams (two in each conference) played each other twice a year, so it was like having another team in your division.

It was as fair as fair can be...1s and 4s, 2s and 3s playing each other...but Philadelphia bitched because they were fourth in the NFC East every year and they always had one of the toughest schedules because they had six games against the NFC East and one against the winners of the other divisions.

So the NFL jumbled it up. And when the League expanded to 32 teams, they came up with this...

Six games versus division

Four games versus rotating AFC division

Four games versus rotating NFC division

Two games versus remaining two NFC teams that finished in same place you did

Because the Panthers never come to California, so they need to give me atleast one game within driving distance. ha!

They played at San Diego and Oakland last year but it did suck to be in the NFC West when the team first originated and having to travel to San Fran every year....that has to take a toll on a team distance-wise.
