Greg Cossell talks top WR's and DT's for this draft.

I still think there's a good chance that DeAndre Hopkins is the best WR out of this draft class. He's not the biggest, he's not the fastest, but he does run good routes, he has good size and speed and has great hands. I just think he's the best total package. IMO, he's the safest pick. I'm not sure about #14, but I'd LOVE to trade down a few spots and snag him. I very seriously doubt he'd be there in the 2cd.

Yeah let's have our 1st year WR coach delegating most of his time to 1 WR. We do have other young WR who could use his time and wisdom.

yea like those have worked out his far. the only recievers on this roster worth something are smitty, lafell , and ginn(not much)

Yep, sorry, I just haven't seen any proof that we have much to work with right now. We have Smitty, LaFell, and then a bunch of also rans. Maybe they can develop into something and maybe they can't. But, rest assured, any team that drafts a WR in the top half of the 1st is gonna have their WR coach spend a significant amount of time with that kid. That's a big investment you're making. Gotta protect your investments.

I love how some of you have made a judgement on players after 1 or 2 years.

If we went by that logic. CJ, Hardy, James A, and Moose would have been gone after their 2nd Year.

You haven't seen any proof that their not going to develop into solid players. Their isn't proof any WR we draft will be good. It's the same risk level. This grass is greener mentality has taken over a lot in this forum.

Again I'M not saying we don't need to draft a WR I think we should. But to throw away the concerns fans and analysts have about a prospect is asinine. It's asinine to think that in his 1st year as a coach Ricky P can teach a guy how to be a WR. Maybe we don't give him that big of a project in his 1st stint as a coach. He already has enough on his plate to deal with.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Look, it's not like we have a ton invested in our WR corps. LaFell is the only young guy we have who we've made a significant investment in as he was a 2cd round pick. The rest of the guys we have are a collection of mid-late round picks, undrafted free agents, and cheap veteran free agents. Well, we traded the future #33 pick away for the right to draft Armanti, but good god, let's just forget that happened.

You act like we'd be tossing out guys who we've made significant investments in. I hate to tell you, but given the state of our WR corps, if a guy can't get on the field, then he's probably just not that good. We have no young guys on our team right now that would make me shy away from taking a WR in the 1st or 2cd. Quite the contrary. The state of our young WRs makes me WANT to take a WR in the 1st or 2cd.

The guy I want is DeAndre Hopkins. I think he's the best total package WR in this class. Other guys may be bigger or faster or more explosive, but I think he's the best WIDE RECEIVER in this class. He has good measurables, has great hands, runs good routes, and just plain makes plays on the football field. He reminds me a ton of Hakeem Nicks when he was at UNC.

You know, he never actually says that he's the best WR in the class. He did say it would not surprise him if he goes top ten.

I'm convinced that the WR we should take are Allen, Hopkins, Hunter. Any of them would be great. I'm more inclined for Hunter or Allen. Cossell said Hunter reminds him of AJ Green with his movement and ball skills. I'm glad he said this because I thought the same. He also said Hunter had better tape than Patterson. He's too raw. Which is another thing I thought as well.

interesting take....I got that Tavon should be taken if he's still there for us. And our new GM says he wants playmakers.

That said, I will reiterate what I've been saying since last year.....any wr we get better have hands, because Cam rockets the ball. He is not a touch guy. No point in getting open if you can't catch the ball.

seems like Hopkins can do that.

yep, and it's not like he's going to be teaching a squirrel to be a belly dancer. he's working with players who have a decent foundation and natural talent to work with and if they are a blank slate then that's fine as well because it will be easier than overcoming bad habits taught by others.

if you draft the right guy, he's got a good balance between potential and coachability. he'll be likely to reach his potential because he takes to coaching so well, puts in the extra work they all need to be putting in, and has shown growth.

When the fug has he done it before?

It's crazy for you to just think that a guy who has never coached or develop talent can do it in his first shot at it. You act like Ricky is going to step in and be Richard Williamson.

You act like we'd be drafting someone who'd never played football before. He wouldn't be trying to teach some track star how to play WR. He'd be developing a college WR to play WR in the NFL.

This is why I DON'T want Patterson in the 1st. He's just too raw. I don't want a player who is that raw at #14. No thanks.

If we take a WR at #14, I want to take a WIDE RECEIVER, not a talented athlete to try to develop as a WR. Patterson may turn into a very good NFL WR for all I know, but I think it's going to be a few years down the road. I wouldn't expect much out of him as a WR for the first couple of seasons. I don't want a project at #14.
