Why I Think the Panthers Will Dominate Next Year

For some reason, as i have had time to sit back and look at all the moves that had been made this offseason, I am more excited than ever. I know that we were all excited last year, but this year is different because of the new climate around the organization with the GM change and the controversy of bringing back rivera, also chud leaving.

Last year is going to be the year we look back on in 5-10 years as one of the most important years we have ever had. All the mistakes that had us in hulk-rage mode were necessary evils. We needed to play soft zone many times over only to get the same result of an embarassing loss. Cam needed to throw that ball in the ground in the Seattle game. Lafell needed to drop that pass against kansas city. Our offense started to correct itself through making mistakes but now its brought to a team level and now is the real time to put our best foot foward. Rivera now knows just how important every little decision is through the duration of the game, and that as a head coach he should be prepared for every situation.

Gettleman had us all flustered but as we let things pan out, he has at least appeared to be a crucial peice of the puzzle we were missing. We started out in one of the most undesirable situations as far as the cap is concerned, and when he came in and declared that he wanted to position us in the draft to be able to pick the BPA, we thought he was crazy. With the secondary acquisitions and retaining captain, the wild card in Ted Ginn, the resiging of Dwan to adress interior dline needs, and restructuring gross, Gettleman has truly made good on his promise to put us in a good position in the draft.

2013-14 will be a very good year for the Panthers, and to think we still have the draft to improve our squad is an awesome thought.

TL;DR: chyea.

I think our defense will carry our offense.

I think we will average close to 27 points a game as an offense next year, and that is saying something considering who we are playing. but i think our defense is going to be the better unit. should average less than 21 ppg.

We sorely need another receiving weapon and a right guard on offense. On D we need another player at the defensive tackle position, and we have arguably the worst secondary in the league.

Options to address these things are still available to us but we have to elect to pursue them.

Prior to last season, I was excited about what I thought this team could do *this* season. Not last year, but this year. I wanna hold out that hope but we have some issues we have to address if we want to give ourselves a real shot this year.

And yet we still had a top 10 defense with out a starting corner [which i didnt mind having out] and jon beason. I agree we have some holes to fill but i think we are in a good position to do work regardless of the draft.

    • he used to have nothing good to say about them. put him on the payroll...problem solved.
    • I am also intrigued by Mohammad. Could be another story. Seems like he has the talent but seems to have had some issues with coaching schemes/changes,  some attitude and work ethic issues? Hopefully his being home can get him focused. Here is what I read ( all second hand to me ) :    1- He has all the skills but was nonexistent under two different coaching staffs. He butted heads and was benched under Jimbo (for wearing sleeves under his uniform after the coaching staff told him not to 🙄). Then under the new staff, he rarely saw the field – he had just 55 yards last season. When he saw the field, he either made the most impressive play of the game or would get an unsportsmanlike penalty. Just a bizarre case because he has the talent.     2 -Aggie here to provide some insight. As the other poster mentioned, Moose had a weird time at A&M and it didn't help that Jimbo's offense was painful and wide receivers never seemed to excel. His third year was promising but he was also competing with Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, and Chase Lane who I'm pretty sure were all 5*s. Also Ainais Smith and Devon achane ran majority of the offense. That said, going into his last year with Jimbo, a couple guys like Lane and Achane left, and most Ags thought this would be the year Moose really steps up. Unfortunately as the other poster mentions, he disappeared into misconduct and coaching change.
    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
