NFL careers are short, they need to make all they can as fast as they can, this is should be everyone's goal too. I don't blame the players for wanting what they can get when they can because its a business I know it's forgotten a lot but the NFL is a business and everyone's in it to make money

Nobody should make money off the NFL, no one.

This was the best compromise possible. Had we cut him outright we would have saved 6.7 million against the cap.

Then he'd be looking for a 1-2 year deal on some team that would require relocating and other inconveniences of joining a new team, especially for a 10 year vet. I doubt he would get much more if any somewhere else than the 5.5 million he's making here.

Panthers win because they saved the same amount they would have if they outright cut him. Granted they have an additional 3.6 million in future dead money.

not sure he's asking for or deserving pity, but he did take a significant cut in pay. it doesn't matter what he was left with...its quite a difference from what he got and i wonder how many would be able to make that kind of sacrifice meaning that percentage of a cut in pay. remember that he, like most players, are counting on that money taking care of him and his family for the rest of his life. it doesn't matter if it's. whole lot more than we would ever hope to make. at the end of the day, it's a family man trying to take care of his family not just now, but in the future. and he was willing to agree to that restructured contract even though it was drastically different than what he had been planning on. it couldn't have been an easy decision to make or reality to swallow.

No NFL should EVER count on any contract payment except for what he's guanteed. That's why signing bonues and guanteed money is such a big deal. A team can cut you at any time. Most contracts are hardly worth the paper they're printed on.

Almost every boss in the world will replace a high cost worker with a low cost worker if that low cost worker can do the job equally well. That's business and it's smart business.

Pay cuts are a massive blow to the ego, whether you're making $20m or $12.00 per hour. The figure is immaterial. Your employer just told you that you are not worth your salary to the business.

The part I loved. When he said the team told him they wanted to do something. Makes me wonder what that could be? ,,, It was a great gesture by Gross. Shows the team he is all in for this ride. Could mean he sees good things and wants to be a part. Not a we are gonna stink so give me my money.
