yeah, lets bank everything on him beating the odds again.

he's done enough beating the odds by not getting hurt and missing significant time the past couple years. he is on borrowed time.

i don't want to go into the season with lafell being our best WR and the rest a bunch of question marks who have been on the team for a year or two and haven't done poo.

I love smitty but he'll be 34 this season and I think this is his last season as a top receiving threat. How many receivers produced at a high level when 35 or older? We really need to go WR in round one.

I suspect we'll look to get a WR in the 1st or 2nd round, but I don't want to see us reach on a guy. As much crap as Hurney gets and has earned, at least he made his 1st round picks count, and I don't want us throwing that out the window because Smitty is 34. If that WR is BPA sure (for our team), otherwise we're just reaching due to a need. Everything I've heard says this is a deep WR class but with no real elite prospects e.g. AJ Green, Julio Jones, etc.

To back the earlier post up, of those WR's only Drew hill was under 5-10 tall.

He had 1000 yard seasons at 34 and 35 then dropped off to 600 and then 300 yards before retiring. During his last 5 seasons his Yard per Catch dropped over 5 yards. From his peak to his last 1000 yard season his Yards per reception dropped 8 yards. He went from averaging around 17-18 Y/R with a high of 20 to 10-13 Y/R in that time period.

Basically what I'm saying is that his dropped happened and he fell off a cliff speed wise.

Terrell Owens had 983 in 2010 and he was 37.

Tony Gonzales as a TE had 930 yards last year and was 36.

Jerry Rice had a 1000 yard season at age 40.

Issac Bruce had a 1000 yard season at 34 and 850 yards at 36.

Tim Brown had a 1000 yard season at 35.

Marvin Harrison had a 1000 yards season at age 34.

James Lofton had a 1000 yards season at 35.

Here is a good list oof all time receiving leaders if you need more:

Our own Moose had over 900 yards when he was 35.

Smitty is currently 23rd on the all-time list.
