Is Beason going to restructure?

I agree, just saying it's possible. Frankly, I don't think we've ruled out cutting/trading him after June 1. But I have no basis for thinking that, it's just my opinion.

I really do not see us cutting or trading him anytime in the future. If they wanted to move Beason, they would have kept Anderson.

Yeah, find me a team that's willing to take on Beason's contract in a trade.

Show me where we would get the cap room for his 16 million in bonus money that would accelerate and hit the cap all at one time if he's traded.

Same thing happens if you cut him.

And to the poster that knows a guy on the team I could see Jon taking a 15% paycut to his yearly salary but he's already gotten his bonus money and that's what we're on the hook for salery cap wise and he ain't giving any money back. No way in hell the panther are paying out the yearly salary on that contract over the life of the deal. We'll keep him and play him this year. Next year we'll still owe 8 million towards the cap but as June 1st cut we can spread that out over 2 years. We'll cut him.

At that point he better be willing to take a lot more than 15% off if he wants to stay unless he's lights out and worth his 6.5 and 7.5 million base salery. Somehow, I think we can find a decent strongside backer for less than that.

I'm gonna tell you all something that comes from a "source" Naturally I wont name the source because it is a long time friend (who is a starting player) and is close to Beason.

To put it simply:

He wants to stay and retire here.

He knows over the past few years injury has kept him at a point that he isnt playing to the level his salary expects.

He IS willing to take as much as a 15% pay cut to help the team this year.

He knows that with is injuries..he likely wont find much better anywhere else at this time.

He knows he needs a good year of uninjured play to command the kind of money (either from the Panthers, or elsewhere) he is being paid now.

And most importantly...he DOESNT WANT to play anywhere else. He knows he is already set for life and is comfortable with the pay cut...possibility of retirement/money he has stashed away in various ventures. He truly loves the Charlotte area, appreciates what the team has given him and his family...and basically isnt a greedy SOB. He comes from humble beginnings, and is content which all that he has already. He doesnt desire a HUGE payday...he desires to play the game he loves with the team he loves.

All of that said...agents may convince him otherwise...but as mentioned...this comes directly from starting player whom I have known since my first year of college. Most wont believe me (and that's ok) but just wait and see.

Ummmm. I actually believe you. All jokes aside. Hopefully what you are saying is true because I feel he can rebound this year.

Question? Luke is out starting middle linebacker, that's a given. I wouldn't want it any other way after seeing him out there. Who plays weak side linebacker and who plays strong side now? To my understanding Jon and Thomas Davis both have experience playing weak side. In your opinion, who has the better skill set to play strong side. Has Rivera hinted at where Jon will line up ? Thomas plays at such a high level at weak side I think you have to leave him there.

Keek and TD has earned their 2 starting spots and won't be changing. Beast has no choice but to play in the other spot.

Hey, everyone that wants Beason or any player to take a pay cut.

Consider this.

you will be at your current job at most 8 more years

you make good money

your performance has been great, then due to some illness it went down, you can still be a solid worker tho

the company wants to add more workers

they are likely to fire you next year

the company wants you to take a 20% cut in pay

do you do it?

If so, you are a moron.

Yeah you are probably right and we have no choice but to pay him with his contract. Is there a big difference in weak side and strong side linebacker? To my understanding in the 4-3 the weak side linebacker typically is faster, while the strong side linebacker usually lines up on the side of the tight end.

I'm still in full rage mode that Beason played with a partially torn achilles before they even had the specially made boot he was gonna wear. If it was a complete tearing risk and didnt even have a safety boot, he should of sat out or had surgery, oh well coulda woulda didnt. I agree though that the contract woulden't look so bad if they would have held him out.
