Gross's new contract voids in 2014. OT now moves up priority list

If Gross voids his contract after next year exactly how many folks will come out of the woodwork to bid on him? Next year it supposed to be tighter than this year and 2015 is supposed to be flat at well. Someone called the cap regressive not even flat as automatic costs for vet minimums etc continue to grow. He won't exactly be able to command top dollar and there should be plenty of folks around to pick up.

this. next year we shouldn't have any problem picking solid OTs in FA. the market should be even better than this year and we will be in a much better cap situation to take advantage of it and players will be more likely to take cheap longer term deals just for job securities sake.

i am not worried at all. the panic going on in some of this thread has been quite funny. we'll get the OL fixed in FA with players who won't take a couple years to not look like they are on roller skates while we pick up decent prospects later in the draft to learn behind the short term vets ahead of them.

i just don't see the problem.

There's been no addition, only subtraction, and not addition by subtraction either. a 7-9 team can't afford to lose what it had.

Haha what? Dude that doesn't make any sense. We retained Munnerlyn and Dwan, our top 2 free agents. We got rid of Anderson, who at this point is a good flexible backup but subpar starter. We brought in a ballhawking 4th corner that can play nickel and some safety in D.J. Moore, a more than capable return man and possible slot guy in Ginn, and a veteran presence at corner to help the young guys in Florence. We have gotten better. Maybe we haven't raised our ceiling yet, but we certainly have raised our floor.

Who have we lost that's going to make such an impact? And there's been plenty of addition.

So somehow Drayton Florence is a starting caliber CB? Who's playing the other safety position? We lost Ron Edwards who atleast ate up space, and we have no one else there. We lost Anderson who could atleast tackle, and that's better than what we have. If the offense clicks, then fine. 40 points a game will get us to the playoffs next year.

Have you already forgotten that we played almost the whole season without Gamble? Yes, Florence immediately becomes a starter for us.

We haven't even had the draft yet, seen any possible trades, or even gone through cuts. This poo takes time man. We are doing pretty well for being cap strapped.

Looks to me like Gross wants to retire as a Panther. If he wants to play in 14, it will be here. But, the main thing is, he really helped the team this year. Gettleman said he was thinking long term. Was not going to sacrifice next year for this one. I think I will trust this guy.

1. This forum shat all over Captain this season. Yet now bringing him back makes him a savior for us?

2. I almost think D.J. Moore was somehow part of the Captain bargaining, and someone panic, in either signing Moore b/c they called Captain's bluff, or Captain came crawling back when that bluff was called.

3. Moore is a nickel back, and not a safety. We don't have a starting caliber safety on the team.

4. A ball-hawking 4th corner might as well be a punishing water boy.

Atleast Gross gave us some room, but most of what's good has been scooped up. Lame duck year. Put money on it. I'm a negative nancy b/c every year i've stuck my neck out supporting this team and it doesn't add up in the end, making me look like an asshole. No more hype, they don't deserve it. And I don't expect a one year turn around with a team that doesn't have the funds to go out and get players that will give an immediate impact. Draft picks will not be an immediate impact. If we draft any WR, what makes you think they can learn the system? How many WR have we drafted that were busts b/c they weren't devoted enough to read and understand the playbook (Colbert, Jarrett, Lafell). There's something in the air in North Carolina as well that prevents the sports franchises from staying healthy. Look at the Canes this year. All I'm saying is i've been down this road before, and i'm just not falling for it again this time. This is my two cents. This is the internet, therefore my opinion is incorrect.

Florence is a veteran and will provide leadership to the young guys who basically played the last half of the season last year. It's definitely a patchwork job and this position needs to be improved but it's not worse than it was last year.

Ron Edwards was not that good. Retaining Dwan is a big deal at DT. Yes we will need to look to improve that position and hope Fua gets better. Not much worse than last year if any.

I liked Anderson but we have to believe that Beason is coming back. We are deep at LB. Anderson didn't have an amazing year.

We DID add a dynamic return man. Our return game is going to be 100Xs better already with Ginn

We signed the S from Oakland. Another patch job but an improvement.

We still have the draft.

My point is this team is not worse than is was last year. I like the guy who said we may have not raised the ceiling but we have raised the floor. Great line....

1. Patch jobs aren't improvements.

2. If you're cut by last year's Lions, that's not a good thing.

3. A safety from Oakland. Please re-read what you just said.

4. No return man will be dynamic if the other guys can't block for you.

5. Haha lowered the floor.
