Gross restructured

Does anyone find it strange it took this long or was there a purpose behind it?

My thinking it was purely for negotiation purposes. Everyone Carolina dealt with(agents) knew how much cap money we had. So saying hey we only have this much, we are offering all we have helped. Then after getting as much leverage as we could, negotiated more cap space to deal with whatever potential free agents still left on the market after all the other teams overpaid. It's like going shopping the day after Christmas!!!

Or it could be Gross just decided to make the offer to restructure after looking at how the market was shaping.

Either way win win I think.

Well, you wouldn't want to flash cap space money around while you made the moves Gettleman made up to this point...now you make the room to dpend some on a bigger impact player

@SteveReedAP

BREAKING: Panthers OT Jordan Gross has agreed to a restructured contract. Base salary reduced from $8.7M to $1M in '13, $6.7M to $1M in '14.

@SteveReedAP4m

I'm not sure at this point if years were added on to the contract, but that would make sense. Hope to know more soon.

That'll help.

If we cut williams, we will save additional $3 or $4 million. We can also sign 2-3 decent FAs.

No.

Accelerate Bonus, Subtract Salary = loss or gain from cutting.
