Gross restructured

in fairness....restructuring Gross and cutting Gamble are the type no brainers that Pat Y and Person could figure out.

and leaves us without a LT in 2014. I would assume this is Gross' way of saying one more year and I'm done.

Thats my guess as well.

Unless he wants to move to RT on a completely new deal, as he voids this one and gets a new one.

*head is spinning*

So since he was probably going to get cut next off season anyway, this deal basically saves 6 million this season and cost the team 4 million next season. So the team basically breaks even and losses it's LT while Gross makes another 4.5 million in guaranteed money.

Under his old deal cutting him after this season would've gave the Panther's a 1 million cap hit, that now goes up the nearly 6 million. Measly savings overall honestly.

Honestly Gross Bossed the Panther's around on this one, They could have cut him this season or next season and saved more money.

That's the part I don't get. He's still owed bonus from his last deal (including a roster bonus for 2014, though that may have been voided ). With the majority of the deal being guaranteed, it would seem to make more sense to cut him after the 2014 season.

So since he was probably going to get cut next off season anyway, this deal basically saves 6 million this season and cost the team 4 million next season and then 900k for two more years. So the team basically breaks even and losses it's LT while Gross makes another 4.5 million in guaranteed money.

If he's cut next season it would accelerate the remaining bonus of $3.6 million + a $2 million option bonus from his previous deal. And like I said before he may or may not still have a roster bonus in 2014, and if so that would add another $1 million to the hit. Of course a June 1 cut is also an option and would split it up I believe $2.9 million (or 3.9 if the roster bonus is still applicable) in 2014 and $2.7 million in 2015. Since the deal is predominantly guaranteed, we'd only save the $1 million base by cutting him.

This is why I think keeping him for two years makes more sense. Waiting until 2015 would only cause a cap hit of $2.7 million, the same as cutting him post-June 1 next off-season.

The only problem with that is it looks like he wants to retire after this year. If that is the case, what does it mean for the cap?

The deal auto voids after this year, so basically the Panther's saved 3.2 million on this years cap and took an additional 4.6 million hit on next years cap. Just moved the numbers from now to next year basically.

The 3.2 million saved number is from Reed, so that puts the Panthers at around 7 million available salary cap after the June 1st cut of Anderson goes through.

The Panther's actually lost money on this deal, considering it was a given that Gross would've been cut next year anyways. Under his old deal cutting him now would've saved more money and playing him this year then cutting him next year would've saved more money.
