This is exactly the same shite that Joe Adams was doing in his highlight video. Austin's highlights look very pedestrian against moderate competition. I especially like how he he gets walked down in the Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Marshall games. Adams was running all over the field against SEC competition everyweek. Some might say that he got run down in certain situations too. I say he was drafted in the fourth round and he is already on our team. He was not the 14th overall pick in the first round.

An issue with Austin are his small hands, which equal fumbles and double catches at the next level. He played alot in the backfield, and one of the running jokes here is our over-emphasis on the backfield.

People are already saying if we have the creativity to use him, he can be a weapon. How about we draft a guy that does not need us to run gimmicks for him to succeed. He is nothing more than a slot reciever whose supposed video game speed does not give him much seperation against top competition We need to go OL or DL when it is our turn to draft and get one of these bigger and stronger recievers who are still fast in the second(i.e. J. Hunter, D. Rodgers) or K. Stills in the fourth if you want a slot reciever that bad.

Have you compared their stats in college and speed? I did not think so

And again, there it goes. People comparing Tavon to 89 bc both blacks and 5footer.

I really like how I said that you compared him to Steve cause I was almost certain I didn't. I used to be like you though, hell bent on drafting a player no one wanted. You should have seen how they did me on a board when I wanted Julius Peppers. Peppers did actually warrant a top 15 pick though.

I'm not trying to be an outcast by wanting to draft Tavon at 14. You do know that there are many, many more huddlers on here crying for Tavon just like me? Im not the only one.

And Im glad you strucked gold on Peppers.

There is a reason one is a projected Top 15 pick and the other was a reach in the 4th round. Spoiler alert: scouts don't make decisions based on highlight reels. They watch full game footage. Another spoiler alert: NFL scouts are paid for a reason.

I haven't read past page 3, but I just wanted to point out that ProSource made a comment about Tavon's 72 carries...

This alone describes how clueless you are about Tavon Austin. He's a CONVERTED RB. Pointing out his seemingly high carries for a WR to justify your argument when he had some SOLID WR numbers (better than anything Smitty did in college (not comparing the two, mind you... just an example)) is nothing more than a confirmation bias.

Returns not included, over the 4 year college career that Austin had, he averaged almost 11 yards whenever he touched the ball. He posted over 100 catches and 1200 yards receiving each of his last two years. This is also in an offense that had the pieces that are similar to what the Panthers offense has.

Austin wasn't even their main guy... the offense was pretty balanced over his career.

If you don't want an offensive weapon for your offense... go ahead and overlook him...

If you want an offensive weapon, there is a proven one for the taking in this draft.

I'm not gonna lie... I'm probably the biggest Tavon Austin homer on these forums... I love the guy...

Yeah, 14 may seem a little high for him by most standards... even for me... But I think rolling the dice pays off sometimes, and I think Tavon is pretty much rolling leaded dice...

Sure, the Huddle would probably melt down... But I'd be one happy dude if Tavon Austin was a Panther...

totally agreed.

i don't really have any one bandwagon i'm on or think there's any "WE MUST PICK" type guys that we fail if we pass up. i do think the direction we're going, tho, is WR. if not the first then the second. i think they'd be happy if austin fell to them but as i've said before, i think the WR that we end up with is allen. just a feeling more than anything.

Tavon Austin is pretty amazing but I don't see how you guys think he's going to be so great for us. We need a future #1 WR and in my personal opinion we need one now. Austin is 5"8, and before you guys say Steve Smith, just realize that there has literally never been a player like Steve Smith. We can't assume that Austin is going to be able to play like him, to be able to beat double teams and carry an offense. We need a guy with great size and speed who you can be a reliable target, a redzone threat, and a deep threat.

We also just signed Ted Ginn. I think the better draft would be to take Richardson in the 1st and Justin Hunter in the 2nd.

Though I do really like Patterson I share the doubts people have for him.

The "we can get a WR late" argument (i.e. the Welker/Cruz argument) would be a wonderful one to make provided this team hadn't proven over and over (and over.. and over) that it was fundamentally retarded when it comes to scouting and drafting WR talent. LaFell is the best we've done since drafting Steve Smith 12 years ago, which is pathetic. We've shown to be unable to do anything from the 2nd round down, so we'll probably need to just target a guy in the 1st with enough natural talent that it's almost a no-brainer.

To recap, we have Steve Smith who is still pretty good but is slowing down, losing some of that vert and relies more and more on trying to beat the crap out of CBs. Then Brandon LaFell who would be a decent #3 on most teams. After that, you've got a message board hero who hasn't played since 2010 and has never actually played with our franchise QB, a slow PR/KR who can't actually catch the football, Pilares who rarely seems to push his way into a game and doesn't look all that impressive when he does, and some dude named Bryant on the practice squad.

Edit: I forgot Ted Ginn. The guy who hasn't been able to play WR since he arrived in the league.

The position needs an influx of talent. Everyone preaches depth at other positions, what happens if Smith goes down for a significant amount of time? Everyone cool with lining Ginn, Gettis, Pilares, or Joe fuging Adams out wide to pair with Brandon LaFell?

I don't know if Austin is worth #14 and definitely don't know how he'll turn out, but if they decide he's the guy then fuging bravo for addressing a hole that's been there as long as DT.

      I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛

      bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
