T. Austin < or = J. Adams

T.Austin is clearly a better prospect than J. Adams...but I do feel like we have too many short, quick receivers with Pilares, A.Edwards, J.Adams and even our Smitty (even though he's a special case)

Yeah, don't trust this kid for the same reasons I don't trust J. Adams talent at the NFL level.

If you want a WR and Patterson is there at 14 you take him, it's a no-brainer in my book.

Cool my vid got used for an argument. Also no Joe is def less than Ace. Ace is only 5'7 and still is faster and has better hands than Joe Adams. Only time I recall him dropping the ball he scored on the same play against georgia.

Troll title for a thread that actually has some legitimate points in it. Austin is clearly a better prospect than Adams, but I'm not sure all the hype he's receiving is warranted. People on here love to proclaim every fast short receiver the next steve smith, who is one of the most unique players I have ever seen.

I did struggle with the title. This guy does not have the leaping ability or hands of Steve. He has got skills, but he not a top 15 pick. He smells of Troy Williamson to me.

Please don't use draft projections or where a player was draft to determine the better player. To many example of that not working out.

Geno Atkins was a 4th round pick Tyson Jackson was a 1st round pick

Colston was a 7th round pick Jarret was a 2nd round pick.

Brady was a 6th round pick Leaf was the 2nd pick in the draft.

Even tho i think Austin is gonna be a good player, i still scratch my head at how people think he is gonna be some unstoppable weapon in the NFL.I mean this is Pro football, there are ways to take anybody out of a game unless they player is just so physically and athletically gifted that they are hard to stop. And Austin is lacking in the physical department and he wont dominate off his speed. I guarantee it.

And then there are things like this that some how go unoticed

Vaccaro was able to cover Austin pretty well in that game and he is not even that fast and overrated to some people. But i will say again, its not that i dont think Austin is gonna be great player its just that i dont think he will dominate in the ways people keep claiming he will and i think we need some thing different than what he offers at a 14th pick overall. Thats all.

I like how I talked about specific 40 time in my OP. Wait, I didn't talk about it. Literally, most of the post was about game speed and how the film in college was similar. I feel so god awfully fuging stupid. Maybe I didn't use enough exclamation marks.

I'm not huge on 40 time comparisons, but it's verifiable statistical evidence of just how much faster Austin is than Adams. The only reason that their "film" is similar in college was because they played similar roles and are "similar" in stature. Both relied on making defenders miss because of their size, but it you can't see the incredibly obvious talent and ability gap between the two, you are fuging blind.

For the record, I don't want Austin at 14, but I'd take him in a fuging second if for some reason I had to choose between him and Patterson.

Man you said it better than I did. I feel like if we are trying to gimmick the offense to get him involved, it will hold him as well as the team up. We are not going to put him the backfield and hand the ball off to him. Where is he going to fit in with the WR rotation, because he cannot play the 1 or 2?

I am not high on Patterson either. Stability wise, I would take his teammate first and his ex-teammate as well.

I see this said all the time, and it's patently false. Small speedy receivers don't need to play in the slot. Anyone who makes the assumption that the only receiver position that fast, speedy, short receivers can play is in the slot is just plain being simple minded. With his speed and ability combination, Austin has the potential to gain separation and stretch the field from any receiver positional alignment. What he couldn't be is a possession receiver, in the mold of Moose, but he would never be asked to be. We don't need a possession receiver that can grab high passes out of the air. That's basically Lafell's job, and very likely Lamont Bryant's future job. What we need is a future downfield, dynamic playmaking receiver, which is most definitely what Austin is.

I do think the teams obvious success with throwing mid to late round picks at the WR position should chart our behavior moving forward. Steve Smith will play forever and isn't slowing down at all and we have a wealth of talent headlined by Brandon LaFell ready in the wings.

We should grab a Guard in the 1st as they are super scarce and hard to come by in FA or later rounds of the draft. Hunter and Rodgers do sound like good targets in the second if we decide to draft someone to sit behind Edwards on the roster. Sure, Hunter goes through long bouts of the dropsies and is one ACL tear from using his degree and Rodgers can't pass a drug test to save his life and probably has a Hefty bag of cocaine under his couch, but both sound like much better alternatives to Austin, who is short and pretty much does the same thing as Adams who is just ready to bust out.
