Accorsi doesn't believe in taking offensive lineman in the 1st round

all these threads about how easy it is to find and develop OL are made pretty moot by the fact that our OL sucks. if it were that easy we'd have done it.

If we would've held on to all of our mid-to-late-round OL picks from all those years instead of trying to patchwork our line with quality backups from other teams, our OL wouldn't be this bad.

You are 100% correct in OL being too low a priority on this board.

I wouldn't necessarily say that's true. Some people just believe that good to great offensive lineman have to be developed, and/or acquired through FA due to the somewhat perilous nature of drafting them with high picks---picks that could be used for genuine play-makers that are more likely to have a more immediate impact.

Just to be clear, it's not really accurate to talk about "the Giants drafts under Gettleman" seeing as his days with them were spent in the pro personnel department. His college scouting days date back to his time with the Bills.

You can rightly assume that he would have been influenced to some degree by the Giants draft philosophy, but I'd question whether he was in a position to have a say in who they drafted.

There's a lot of people on this board that don't understand that lol I too doubt he had very little if any say on the giants draft choices but it is possible he will do a lot of things similar to what the giants do

Under Gettleman, Giants have never drafted offensive lineman in first round. They either drafted DEs, DBs, WR, and or RB. They also drafted for position of need.

UNC DT Marvin Austin was a first rounder, was he not? I can't recall.

What he said isn't all that ground breaking. For the most part teams are reluctant to spend 1st round picks on guards, centers or run blocking RT only type OTs. That only leaves franchise LTs as being the heavily sought prospect that universally is regarded as being worth a 1st rounder.

I find it amazing people are so resistant to accepting this. Not entirely sure where this laughable idealogy came from that taking offensive linemen is some sort of smart play only capable of being understood by "disciplined, mature" posters and that taking skill positions players is some sort of "lolherpderpmefanlikeytouchdowns" but it's a sentiment that pretty clearly isn't shared by those in league front offices.

Wide receivers are crucial. Guards are not. That's the game now.

Yet again, the comments were made by Mel kipper who is apparently friends with accorsi and knows his draft philosophy in detail. Accorsi not only hand picked gettleman, but he also spent many years training him. There are many reasons to believe that gettleman would thus view the draft from a similar perspective.

They go to the same wig shop
