Why Passing on a WR in the first might not be a option

This is why it is so important to draft WR in the first round. It is the only way of ensuring an upgrade over Lafell.

Quality guards will be found in later rounds. Cannot say the same for WR.

There maybe only 1 Wr that's a instant upgrade over Lafell in this draft. So just taking 1 in the 1st isn't a sure thing?

Hey hypocrite I pointed out the flaws in some of the WR in this drafted and get labeled hater.

Sorry if I point out facts and you're not willing to acknowledge them.

Fact when thrown to Lafell has a high catch rate.

Fact no 2nd/3rd option put up great numbers in a Option type offense.

Fact lafell has improve his numbers every year he's been here.

I just point out facts sorry.

He had 8 more catches for 64 more yards and one more TD in more games started in 2012 than 2011 (not games PLAYED he had two more games played in 2011.)

Not to mention he had a WORSE target to cacth rate in 2012 than he did in 11. He only missed 20 catches in 2011, 36 in 2012. Though to be fair there's no way to tll how many of those were inaccurate passes.

And Golden Tate, you know, the Number 2 WR and part of Seattle's Read Option offense? Had 688 yards, on 45 catches (out of 68 targets 23 missed catches.) and 7tds. All better than Brandon LaFell's stats last season.

And the WRs he's going up against in comparsion to other RO offenses? The 49ers AJ Jenkins, a washed up Randy Moss, and Mario Manningham. Yeah, real competition there.

And the Redskins? Pierre Gracon would've easily passed both LaFell and Tate had he not missed 6 games. That said he got really damn close anyway in those 10 game she played, (44 catches for 633 yards and 4tds)

So saying LaFell is the "best number two WR in the option offense." is a horrendously skewed stat.

Hey look, I can post facts too!

I get the same vibe from this that I get from the "Hey you remember 2005 when Goings went down. We really needed 4th running back then." Not the same thing but I get that vibe. About the only way you get elite talent at wide reciever is to draft in the first or get lucky. To get elite gaurds 2nd -4th round.

Not a very good judge of vibe. So which receiver is going to be elite that you will take at 14? None of these guys have that sure fire elite status.

if any WR was elite he would be a top 10 pick. why does a WR need to be elite to be a 1st rounder? OG do not go early, just last year every draftnik was saying DeCastro was the best OG prospect since Huntchinson as well. if Johnson is there, yeah i wouldnt mind taking him. but you can get a decent OG in the 2nd or 4th.

il leave this here as well.

Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson dropped 4.2 percent of the targets he saw in 2012.

A lot has been made about Patterson's body catching, tending to shield the ball in his chest or stomach rather than ****** it with hands away from his body. However, as the statistic concludes, few of those possible catches resulted in drops. For comparison's sake, Keenan Allen dropped 4.7 percent, Terrance Williams checked in with 5.8 percent, and Justin Hunter's number was a whopping 12.1 percent.

Who ever said he was the best number 2 wr in a option offense. Show me the link?

What I said is all the #2 wr in the option have comparable number. None are putting up Jaw dropping numbers.

And to be real the number 2 option in this offense is Olsen.

I also like how you pointed out lafell small improvement (in your opinion) without mentioning he did on 3 less games. But of course your not bias.

Im trying to figure out what DT we could possibly draft in the first thats gonna be a elite. Dont know what people are thinking but Star isnt a sure thing as he looks, he is not even better than Suh coming out and Suh hasn't exactly lived up to his status he had when he was drafted. I would say he is above average right now, wasnt even the best DT on his team last year. And who says the next receiver we take has to be elite? When you talk elite your talking maybe 5 players at that position in the league. Thing is, the teams with "elite" receivers are not getting to superbowls because thats all they have, teams are winning because they have a great group of receivers with at least one guy that can make clutch plays when asked upon. Boldin, Nicks, Jennings, Crabtree, Bryant. I wouldnt call these guys elite but they are definitely clutch and they have supporting cast. Thats the best thing the Panthers should do is get a reliable number 1 and get a reliable number 2 and you are in business. Only drafting for the elite guy will just set you back constantly. Constuct a talented group.

Suh is a headcase (in a bad way, not Greg Hardy way), that's why i think he hasn't reached his potential. Star has a good head on his shoulders and is a very hard worker. But there is never really a sure thing.

How much longer will Steve Smith play? He's great everybody here loves smitty but it's only a matter of time before smitty ain't smitty anymore.

Every year we bring in some WR who never really pans out, legedu naanee, Louis Murphy, now Ted ginn JR. Do we have a WR that can step in if smitty goes down? No we don't.

Nobody is saying that we don't need an offensive lineman or a DT. But most of Cam's mistakes come from holding the ball to long because nobody is open or trying to force a pass because again nobody is open. Yea cam got beat up a bit last year but most of that came when we were down to our 3rd center. You can have all day to throw but if nobody is open it doesn't matter. Also I think a lot of the offensive line problems had to do with the youth of Amini and Bell let them grow they will get better.

Wide receiver is one of the deepest positions in the draft this year.

Cordarrelle Patterson

Keenan Allen

Tavon Austin

Quinton Patton

Justin Hunter

Deandre Hopkins

Robert Woods

Terrance Williams

Cobi Hamilton

Da'Rick Rogers

Markus Wheaton

Aaron Dobson

Marquis Goodwin

Ryan Swope

You really think there's gonna be a run on all of those before we pick in the 2nd?

the question is, just how small are you willing to let that list of choices get before we choose. passing league and teams aren't going to wait like they used to. WRs will go quickly this year. do we feel comfortable letting that list dwindle down to 5-10 to choose from?

the predraft attention these WRs get and the number taken before we pick will play huge factors in how early we take one. if only one or two are taken, we might wait till second round. if 3 or 4 go before our pick, we'll probably pull the trigger.
