Assuming we dont receive Portlands pick..

I like Oladipo, but he has major weaknesses for a SG. I really see him as an MKG type player at the next level. A guy that can give lots of energy, score in transition and play very good defense. The main problem is that we always have MKG, and can't afford to have two poor shooters, because our floor spacing would suffer badly with both of them out there. Of course you could bring him off the bench, and assuming Henderson keeps scoring 20 ppg... I don't see anyone starting over him (Hendo).

*I know that Olapido has hit the college three well this season, but I just don't see him as a guy with anything more than average range at the NBA level*

i have moved into "the safest pick" camp

and I think the safest pick is Noel- the biggest need is the PF/C position and he wont even play til midseason- which will probably give us another good chance at the lottery to pick up Jabari Parker or Andre Wiggins

I don't think taking a guy who is recovering from an ACL injury is exactly "safe". Noel in my opinion is the riskiest pick. He may not be fully healthy, but he does have untapped potential. I see Noel as a boom or bust player.

My favorite prospects are...

1. Victor Oladipo

2. Nerlens Noel

3. Anthony Bennett

4. Alex Len

5. Ben McLemore

this is a terrible year to have the top pick but I'd much rather have Portland's pick next year in what looks to be a far better draft class; also at this point I think whoever is picking number one will take Noel and his potential

I like Bennett or Noel if the Bobcat's only have one pick. If they get Portland's pick then I think they should go with Noel/Bennett at the top and Olynyk/Carter-Williams with the 14th.

Lineup would be either

Walker/ Sessions

Henderson/ Gordan

MKG/Taylor/Adrien

Bennett/ McRoberts/Thomas

Bismack/Olynyk/Mullens

or

Walker/Carter-Williams

Henderson/Sessions/Gordan

MKG/Taylor.Adrien

Noel/McRoberts/Thomas

Bismack/Mullens

Personally, I like the first option more, but the second one does give the bench some serious punch and flexibility.

I'm actually pretty happy with our 1-3. Kemba has played like top 10 PG this season (by pretty much every advanced metric). Henderson with his surge since the All Star break has moved into the #5 spot in PER as well as Estimated Wins Added. MKG has been a weak spot by some advanced metrics, but he is also our best one on on defender according to MySynergySports. I'm not a huge fan of PER to judge talent, but it is a pretty good measure of efficiency. Our 1-3 is actually fairly strong. Our 4-5 are historically bad, although McBob has been pretty good lately, but he's not the future starter at the 4 spot. In saying that, I'm always for drafting the best player available, but since no one has really separated themselves as THE top player -- I am all in for Noel, and if he's not available then I'd like to get Bennett. The only thing that I really dislike about Bennett is that he doesn't really provide defense... at all. However, he is a good rebounder, a good scorer, has great range for a big, is capable of playing the 3 at times, and is just a very athletic forward. I hope that he measures in at 6-8 at least, because if not then our front court will be very tiny with him and Biz.

I definitely want a big man this year, none of the guards in this draft are cant miss guys, so might as well fill the glaring weaknesses. Noel would obviously be the pick at #1, but I would mind either Bennett or Len (and maybe Zeller or Olynyk with a trade down). I wouldnt worry too much about Bennett's height- he is strong and has a big wingspan so between him and MKG you can defend all but the biggest PFs (Randolph and Aldridge pretty much).

I forgot about Len. I like him a lot as well, but I'm not sure if I would want him with a top 4 pick. I suppose it depends on how he measures out.

The MKG bashing is beginning to become very monotonous. The KID is barely 19 years old. He is going to be raw for a couple seasons - if not more. I wouldn't call him a project b/c he plays tremendous defense, and has a motor that is rare in the NBA. He's going to be a very productive player in years to come for the Charlotte Hornets.

As for the draft: I want Shabazz. Start him immediately, and let Henderson come off the bench. Whatever the pick, I'm starting to trust the front office for once - and will be pleased as long as it's a competent pick. Shabazz IMO is the clearly the most talented player. Zeller will be a bust. He's no Kevin Love, and lacks the athleticism, and strength down low to be anything more than a Hansbrough 2.0.

We still have free-agency as well, and the Hornets will be setting pretty with the cap space we have. I just hope they don't blow it all on one player. The best thing to do is sign 1-2 players (front-court), and save some for resining, and next years free-agency.

The Hornets will be relevant again soon. I'm sure everyone in the NBA recognizes that. Dunlap will be gone after we're done "building" through the drafts.

I haven't really seen Bobcat fans bash MKG tbh.

I do agree with you about Shabazz for the most part. I was on the Shabazz bandwagon a long time ago, and was hoping that he would tear up college basketball. He's shown that he's a lethal scorer (despite playing in a system that really spreads the ball around), but that is the only area that he has shown to be above average in. He's a pathetically bad defensive player, doesn't make teammates better -- hell, he isn't capable of finding the open man -- he's generally a ball stopper. Despite me bashing him a bit, I am a big fan of his, but I'm not blind. I was definitely disappointed by his lack of overall production. Besides, right now Henderson > any guard that we could draft... he is tearing it up since the ASB, and I see no reason why he won't continue as long as he stays aggressive.

Shabazz is such an intriguing player, by all accounts he has a great work ethic and is an incredibly effective scorer already. But I dont like his mindset right now, especially on a team like the bobcats with no veteran leadership. His defending is inexcusable for a guy with his strength and quickness, and he doesnt understand the concept of team offense.

But if he goes to a team with good veteran leadership and a good coach? He will be awesome. Somewhere like OKC for instance, who own the Raptors pick (6-10 range)

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
