I believe 8-9 DT in this draft will end up being solid 10 year starters.

I dont know man. You probably know something I dont, or either you're just really optimistic about this year's class of DTs.

Floyd, Star, Sheldon, Hankins, Short, Jesse, Sylvester, Brandon, Jon Jenkins, and Spence are probably the top 10 DT prospects right now depending what source you look at. Its hard to imagine all 10 of them or even 8 out of those 10 to go and be solid players for 10+years. Some of them might bust, and 1-3 sleepers will rise and give themselves a name as time goes by, but even with that it is still hard to think 8-9 DTs outta this draft will be solid players for that long.

Since you love stats, if you have time, go find me a Draft class in the past that produced 5-6 solid Dts for a good amount of years.

The way he is handling the contracts(which I feel is awesome) has me convinced we will be going after an LT in the first rd.! It will serve as leverage and insurance over forcing Gross' hand in taking a paycut!

And Dwill is as good as gone! These one year deals show he is thinking long term!

Remember when Gentleman said you need scorers on your football team? WR seems to be the position we're likely choosing in the first.

He also said something about the trenches...

I have been out of the loop here lately, but is there any way we can get James Anderson back as well? I don't recall him signing elsewhere yet. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Anything is possible... But I'd rather use the money to get Mr. Boothe here. Maybe if Gross takes a pay cut and we cut AE (and no I'm not one of those "CUT AE NAOW" guys but with Adams and Ginn here he's expendable) then bring James Anderson back

Very few players are 10 year NFL starters. Very few.

We're not talking about RB and Skill position players. Trench players last a lot longer then the avg.

And you also missed my point about depth in this draft. There could be 29 DT drafted in this draft then add in the DE's that will morph into DT from playing in (3-4) or getting older. And you can find 8-9 10 year vets not that crazy of a idea.

Now do you see what I'm saying?

Banking on getting a LT in the draft would seem kinda risky, there only 3 really good ones that would be reliable starters and they could all be gone by the time we pick. Even if we did draft one i would still keep Gross. It would be a improvement.

2010 has Suh, McCoy, Aluah, Williams and Odrick just in the 1st round. And if we go thru the whole draft

2nd round Lamarr Houston, Linval Joseph, Terrence Cody

3rd round Corey Peters, Geno Atkins,

5th round Cam Thomas

Thats 11 player with a chances.

I wouldn't want to let Gross walk, however, Gman needs to have plan B in place when he goes demanding Gross takes a 60% or more pay cut

If you said 8-9 DTs that end up being "starters" in the NFL, that's one thing. But to claim 8-9 TEN YEAR STARTERS... that's insane. Very few guys start in the NFL for 10 years.

Hell, there's plenty of guys in the HOF who didn't start 10 years.

And don't forget to mentioned that the average years for a player in the NFL is 4years only.

    • The qb position has been eliminated due to the low probability of the success of selecting one early.  This part got me hollering the most "You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just draft a QB and any QB. This leads to wasted draft picks and years of torment as you are stuck in a development cycle for nothing." " "Also, if we don't get our franchise QB this draft....oh well. We got the next dozen or so drafts to keep taking cracks at it."
    • Then be prepared to draft a QB the next year. When the best one would surely not play here. Then what?   This fanbase keeps preaching patience, while other bottom feeders are finding their QB's. Panthers fans are becoming blind. The losing has caught up to the fanbase. We preaching patience when we have been a bad franchise ever since Tepper took over.   But because you don't like Sanders or Ward we should pass on a QB. Then when they become franchise changers you feel bad.   Everyone knows this franchise will continue to suck until they get a franchise QB. Chasing LBs and DEs isn't helping us. We can address the defense after we get the QB.   Cmon Hepcat don't let the blind lead you they blind for a reason!
    • Imagine posting on a forum to mock people for posting on a forum. Whether you realize it or not you just played yourself. LOL  Guess what? We've heard people like you lecture people with opinions about how *insert former Panthers front office or coach moron* knows best and we're all just idiots. This forum exists to discuss Panthers football and that includes *GASP* sharing opinions that may be contrary to what the Panthers end up doing.  If you just want a circle jerk of an echo chamber reassuring you that everything the Panthers do is brilliant despite the abysmal record on the field, I think they made a Discord group for that.
