This isn't true anymore.

Out of the last 4 drafts 16 DT were taken in the 1st Round. Only 1 has been a flat out bust (P Jerry)

2 are still to soon to judge (Fairly,Poe) and the rest have either been very solid or had major impact on their teams.

2009 BJ Raji and Ziggy Hood are starters.

2010 (Suh,McCoy) Tyson Alualu and Dan Williams have been solid and Odrick is a beast in the 3-4.

2011 Phil Taylor was dominate for the Browns. Muhammad Wilkerson very good for the Jets. Corey Liuget has been solid for the Chargers.

2012 Flecther Cox was solid and Michael Brockers was good for the Rams.

Nice research. interesting stuff.

I know Odrick was a DT at Penn State along with Devon Still. But he was never once a DT in the NFL. And was never drafted to be one. He was projected coming out the draft as a hybrid kind of guy if I'm correct. That's exactly what he is.

You don't go and say Devin Hester is a 7th year CB in this league when he's been a WR and returner all his years.

Not the same. He was listed and drafted as a DT just because MIami change his position for a fit. Doesn't change that any other team might use him as a DT.

No team was going to use Hester as a CB.

The first round DT bust rate (48%) is scary. Richardson could be great, but he could bust because he is one-dimensional. I keep thinking a 3-4 team would want him more than a 4-3.

Could we be looking at Cooper (G) in the first? Not an ideal RT, but with a mobile QB, could be a nice fit.

Here are some key questions I have, based on the fact that most DTs are developmental. Usually, it takes 2 years to come of age.

Fua and Kearse are entering year 3. Could either step up and become a solid NT?

How about we give Gettlemen a chance to draft before we know who is a bust or not. Remember Gettleman was one the Giants top scouters for many years. He help to draft guys like JJP and Justin Tuck and Canty. I think Gettleman knows what he is doing when it comes to drafting a DTs and DEs in the draft. Just wait and see what happens before you assume anything.

Yea I really hate these bust rates crap.

Im sure no GMs go into the draft wondering if they should or should not taking a certain position bc of the poor bust rate ratios.

Gettleman was a pro scout when he was with the giants, wasn't really involved with college scouting. But I do agree we need to give him and the scouting department a chance to draft before we judge
