Keenan Allen to work out with panthers April 9

Allen at 14th?! Good luck with that one. His stock has dropped since he skipped out on the combine and on pro day. I don't see him being taken in the first round at all.

skipped out? lol you make it sound like he's a bum.

people who were paying attention knew that it wasn't going to be until april 9th that he showed teams what he could do.

btw...that april 9th workout isn't just for us. proehl is running it and it's at his place, but it's open for all teams.

Some things to consider:

-local kid

-Rivera-Cal connection

-strong relationship with our position coach

-talented player at position of need

-team has shown large interest in giving a legitimate upgrade at the position

I'd say he's a real possibility.

Point? If you don't show up, it still affects your draft stock -- nevermind the fact that he's recovering from a knee injury. Currently, there a number of WRs that are ahead of Allen. Unless he blows them all away, Keenan ain't going 14th overall.

he showed up, but just did not perform. coming off a grade 2 pcl tear he could not do so, and perform at the level he would have loved too. remember the tape is what counts, and the combine is just apart of the process.if the does not check out then i can see us passing on him, but i get the feeling we like him.

yep, plus he has shown the ability to line up in the slot and on the outside which NFL teams love.

Allen is a solid prospect with his hands and route-running but he lacks elite speed and isn't elusive in the open field. He failed to outdo receivers like Hopkins and Rogers last year, so I don't see him being drafted in the first round.

I wouldn't say he isn't elusive, but yea he doesnt have that break away speed. But from what I've seen he is very shifty.

And his tape for the 2012 season was average. I didn't see anything special from Allen whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, Keenan is on par with Bailey, Rogers and Hopkins. All four possess decent hands and above average route-running capabilities but they're not explosive and aren't overwhelming talents.

so what about the years before 2012? his entire body of work is decent, but he caught 98 balls as a sophomore in a pro style offense. he is a better run after catch guy then those guys you listed and had worst QB play. was not asked to run deep routes much but when he did, he got open.

I would say so. Allen is a physical receiver. He tends to fight DBs for extra yards moreso than trying to make them miss.

I know this is a highlight tape, but start at :50 seconds in. As well as the first couple of seconds where he jumps over somebody. The dude is shifty.
