Captain staying

Captain was wise to take a 1 year deal and wait for next offseason to possibly cash in.

or completely foolish.

there is no indication that the cap will be significantly higher next year and most FAs are signing one or two year deals well under previous years market value. CBs are getting paid what they did in 2004. other positions are facing the same thing. these guys signing one year deals are going to be hitting the market again with capt. next year along with more who had longer deals which have run out and the usual cuts. the market will be just as or more crowded next year and the cap situation for teams will be likely just as bad.

capt. essentially got smacked down. he had a multi-year deal on the table and he passed it up trying to play hardball and then got stuck with a cheap one year deal. i think he made a wise decision in signing that latest offer because he could have wound up without a job. it would have been wiser to sign the other deal.

If Dockery gets cut, it's because the other corners all went to CB school and improved their game ten fold over the offseason. If you watched the last quarter of the season, you'd see Dockery is the best corner we have right now and it's not really that close.

Thats a huge stretch. Dockery is being built up to be a decent corner and he really hasnt shown that. He got burned repeatedly on short routes and made no splash plays. Josh Thomas is our best corner on the outside right now. And its close. They all need to greatly improve. Josh Norman is still the best athlete at corner but needs to really hone in on the fundamentals of the position.

I think it is scheme with alot of the cb's. we give to much cushion / play to soft of a zone.

I disagree, we do play a lot of zone, but with Norman it was more than scheme. To me, he gave a slightly larger cushion and would keep backpedaling too long, keeping that same 10 yard cushion he started with. I don't really like that and prefer when corners play trail technique, but that's just me.

I remember thinking, "Who is 31?" when I first noticed him out there. He was impressive. I do not know enough about the position and the TV angles are so bad for DBs that I cannot say he was better than Thomas, but I left the season feeling somewhat better about CB. Dockery, many people may not realize, is the big CB teams are coveting now (6' 1") and he is only 24.

Thomas was considered a small-school stud in college, projected as high as the second round but third in most mocks. Dallas needed so much help at CB, they drafted a project and cut him when he did not perform right away. That was a huge mistake because he has gotten better in 2 years.

Munnerlyn and Moore will be the nickel and dimes. Florence could start, but is (hopefully) is a veteran reserve. I think we are better at CB than people think. Safety too.

I have a feeling Gettlemen starts to focus on the big boys after signing Ginn.

    • The qb position has been eliminated due to the low probability of the success of selecting one early.  This part got me hollering the most "You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just draft a QB and any QB. This leads to wasted draft picks and years of torment as you are stuck in a development cycle for nothing." " "Also, if we don't get our franchise QB this draft....oh well. We got the next dozen or so drafts to keep taking cracks at it."
    • Then be prepared to draft a QB the next year. When the best one would surely not play here. Then what?   This fanbase keeps preaching patience, while other bottom feeders are finding their QB's. Panthers fans are becoming blind. The losing has caught up to the fanbase. We preaching patience when we have been a bad franchise ever since Tepper took over.   But because you don't like Sanders or Ward we should pass on a QB. Then when they become franchise changers you feel bad.   Everyone knows this franchise will continue to suck until they get a franchise QB. Chasing LBs and DEs isn't helping us. We can address the defense after we get the QB.   Cmon Hepcat don't let the blind lead you they blind for a reason!
    • Imagine posting on a forum to mock people for posting on a forum. Whether you realize it or not you just played yourself. LOL  Guess what? We've heard people like you lecture people with opinions about how *insert former Panthers front office or coach moron* knows best and we're all just idiots. This forum exists to discuss Panthers football and that includes *GASP* sharing opinions that may be contrary to what the Panthers end up doing.  If you just want a circle jerk of an echo chamber reassuring you that everything the Panthers do is brilliant despite the abysmal record on the field, I think they made a Discord group for that.
