Ron Rivera reportedly says the Panthers are "open to trading D. Will"

He isn't better than having a quiality RG, CB, etc. being brought in.....with the created cap space.

I was under the impression that there is no point in getting rid of Dwill cause the cap hit will be almost the same as just keeping him. Is that just cutting him or something?

If all we gain is a 5th 6th round scrub then no. But if we clear space to possibly attain quality players to fill holes then this aint as bad as i thought

We actually lose space if we cut him this year prior to June.

$8.2m cap hit if he's on the roster.

$9.6m cap hit if he's cut.

However, we can cut/trade him after June 1 and split the impact between two years.

2013 hit: $3.2m (savings of $5m)

2014 hit: $6.4m (savings of $2.8m)

2015 hit: $0 (savings of $10.2m)

Deangelo is generally healthy and could give a contender a workhorse back for at least another season or two. That's worth about a 4th or 5th rounder...If they could snag a third I'd be really surprised.

A 4th or 5th plus a hefty contract. If it was just a draft pick it would be an easy move to make.

It makes more sense to keep him another year then talk about this.

as already pointed out...

keeping him next season - 8.2m cap hit

cutting him after june first - 3.2m cap hit

i like what gettleman is doing, but the man only has so much cap room to play with right now.

just like gamble was an obvious decision to make cap room, williams is the next in line no brainer.
