(Joe P exclusive)The Gettle speaks: Understands our frustrations

the Falcons were one catch away from the super bowl and we were 7-9. They don't need to improve that much. The Bucs signed a top safety. They beat us twice in defensively oriented games. Their coach was a first year coach. Meanwhile we cut so many of our top defensive players just to get $3.7 mil under the cap. The situation is dire, my man! 3rd place at best.

Good trolling. But honestly lets try better if you want anyone to take you seriously. How many games did Gamble play? Who was Dwan Edwards before we signed him? Seriously you need to sit back and watch the better trolls operate before proceeding.

The fed has very limited "money printing" capabilities beyond like paying their employees.

If you had a goddamn idea what you're talking about you would have said the treasury, but you're most likely a ron paul supporter so god knows you're not constrained by the bounds of reality.

oh god

This is the same guy who said he would use free agency to fill holes so we could go bpa in the draft.- He has not verbally back pedaled on this statement yet, but some of you gladly will let him because its so fun to blame everything on Hurney.

He also said if your not improving the bottom part of your roster you not improving. -Resigning Hartsock,Brockel, Senn, and bring in the likes of Frank Omiyale and Chris Williams is not improving poo. There's plenty of players at the bottom of the roster who could be cut to create some more breathing room as well to allow us to get some imrpovements in here.

He also said he told Rivera if they do this right him and JR will be holding up the Lombardi. -Think about that for a second. The team has to improve or at least the win-loss record must imrpove for Rivera to deserve to keep his job. If we go backwards at all then theres no way he's hoisting up a Lombardi with us ever.

This guy has done nothing thus far to differ himself from what we saw under Hurn dog. I'd even argue something would have been worked out with Gross by now if Hurney was still here.

I have made no firm judgements on him as of yet but seems some of you will give him a free pass no matter what and just blame everything on Hurney.

sorry, but you have some wholly unrealistic expectations.

what gettleman said he would like to do, his goal in managing the team, and what he's actually able to do because of the mess that hurney is obviously responsible for, are two very different things.

he can't do what he would like to do because he's stuck cleaning up a mess. it's not that hard to understand.

he is also doing what makes sense given our situation...waiting until the next wave of free agent activity to be active. the fact that he hasn't picked up really anyone so far is no indicator of future activity or inactivity. he's still trying to create room and it's very early.

I'm admittedly kind of anxious, but I'm not going to let myself get discouraged or freak out about personnel until we head into training camp. I'm not expecting top caliber talent being brought in, but i am expecting a few solid players brought in on the cheap with one or two year deals who will be decent starters.

personnel isn't what I'm worried about this year. its having a HC with poor game management skills and an OC who's a proven failure. coaching will hold us back more than the roster gettleman puts together...imo.

I don't buy that logic at all. Why didn't you add the whole meaningless games argument as well. By the way I thought the Falcons were a 13-3 team who were playing for home field advantage at the time. The goal is to beat some good teams and beat the ones you should which is exactly what we did.

Whatever dude, I'm just not quite as impressed with the last 6 weeks as others. Trust me, I was rooting like we were in playoff games to win them all, but in hindsight those were all PR wins against equal or subpar NFL comp.

OL was poo with Kalil last year to be fair

But that was when Silatolu was struggling trying to figure out what the heck he was doing. So both Kalil and Gross had to cover for him, making both of their play seem much worse than what it would be with a competant LG. However, about mid-season, Silatolu started to figure it out and was a dramatically different player...which in and of itself should lead to an improvement over last year. So with Kalil's return and the expected improvement of Silatolu, I think the left side of our line will be much better than any time last year.

Party pooper.

Point being, they control/operate on intangible capital, "credit" if you will, meaning money is usually both baseless and worthless. But continue on making it your life's purpose to nitpick what specific department of our government is overseeing which specific failure if you please even if it all applies to the same principal. Oh noes, it messed up the joke.

you are the one with the whatever attitude. I cant see how you can go to all the games and root like hell with that kind of defeatist attitude. Maybe it is me but I still go into every game expecting to win. We don't but I would hate to have such a negative attitude before the games even begin. Sad really....

Just pointing out where you're wrong. It doesn't take a lot of effort.

This isn't my life purpose or anything, this is just what i do while waiting for oly liftin videos to buffer.

Those were his statements so if I am to believe him then its his fault if I am being unrealistic in my expectations.

I am also the same guy who supports Panthro's theory that his hands may be tied by Richardson and any shortcomings are not necessarily on Gettleman.

I also am the guy who got flamed in a thread where I asked people to name me a team who overpaid during the first wave of free agency on non qb's who reaped the rewards of it.

Now here was/is my expectation coming into the offseason..

Make the cuts he's made so far...Okay so I am with him there

Keep Captain or find a suitable nickel to replace him...I applauded the Florence deal btw

Find a way to retain Dwan and add someone like Canty who signed a 3 year/ 8 million dollar deal that has a 1.5 million cap hit in 13.

Find a suitable upgrade at free safety like Kenny Phillips who signed a 1 year 2 million dollar deal.

And as a bonus upgrade Hangman/Gary Wiliams or at least add some decent competition there for the starting RG spot.

Draft a new # 1 receiver and upgrade the depth on the lines via the draft.

Restructure Gross to free up some room to make these moves possible.

So all in all my expectations were for him to commit roughly about 6-8 million in cap dollars on retaining Dwan and adding 2 new defensive staters(DT/FS) for 13 and have a good a draft.

Now can he still do all of this? Absolutely, hence me not passing judgement just yet. However players like Chris Williams and Frank Omiyale are not what I had in mind. Sure they would likely sign for the vet minimum on a 1 year deal but why even waste the precious cap space on journeymen who could not make it on other teams in desperate need of o-ilne help?

Where did I say I go into games thinking we're gonna lose?
